Hi,

I haven't posted many paintings on WetCanvas, but I love to see everyone else's work. Thought I'd share my newest one. I based this painting on a photograph I took outside of Talkeetna, AK a couple of years ago. It is predominately watercolor (with some gouache for the foreground trees), on 140 lb. Arches paper.

DakotaPaint,

This is an awesome scene and you've painted it beautifully. Your shadows on the mountains really add dimensions and the soft clouds in the sky make a nice contrast. I like your addition of the airplane because it makes the viewer see the scope of the mountain range.

I like your foreground trees as well because they bring in the greens to break up all the blues.

Glad you decided to post your work, it is lovely.

Thank you all for taking the time to look and for your comments!

Sylvia, it was a challenge to make this look convincing. Alaskans know the area well, so I wanted it to be right. Thank you for your kind comments. (I LOVE your article on negative painting, by the way!)

It's a wonderful painting. It's been a few years but we used to live in Alaska. This reminds me of a vista along a trip from Anchorage to Fairbanks along the backroad. You caught the feeling of the great distances and size of the range nicely!
