One cool thing about gouache is that, if you avoid the few pigments that are toxic, you can fingerpaint! I did this entirely with my hands and fingers, no brushes. It was a blast!
I had to do the handprint several times, like a multi-color block print, since I couldn't get the paint on my last finger without the first finger drying. It's chunky application, too, so it has a 3-D aspect - some areas are 1/8" thick and look like little mountains. I never knew you could do that with gouache.
