 Hi, everyone. I like the ink and wash pieces done here so much I thought I would give it a try also.
This sketch is on 5"x 8" Canson. I drew half of it there, finished it at home. I think it looked better when it was just ink. I still don't have my watercolor chops, so practice, practice, practice.
Also, a couple of fishing flies.
Anyway, I thought I would share.

Nice job on the building. You really captured the lines and shadow to make the two rounded sections look round. And, I absolutely love your fishing flies. I'd seen them on your website and liked them immediately.

Thanks, JJ, Doug and Judy! :)
The fishing flies are pretty easy for me to do because I have tied flies for years. But I haven't done any architecture at all. I think that if I had captured the color of the bricks better I might have liked the piece better.
Also, the paper was pretty small and the building is so large it pretty well filled up the paper. I think that is why I liked it better when it was just ink.
Just thinking out loud here. Part of my learning experience and hopefully others, too!

Jake,
Your building is very nicely drawn. I agree with your assessment about the brick color. If your ink is waterproof, you could go back and add more color and vary it somewhat to suggest bricks. Check out Yorky (Doug's) paintings, he is a master at painting bricks and stones for buildings. ;)
Your fishing flies are really beautiful. It is obvious you know them and really like them. That helps you portray them very realistically and artistically as well.

Nice job. I love looking at pen and ink (haven't tried it yet myself). I really like how you made the front door look recessed and the rounded parts of the building round. Great job! The fishing flies are just great.

thinking out loud and around the subject is good :)
I specially like the flies - you really ought to do a series of those as they are beautifully done.

:) Thanks Sylvia, Vicky and Vivien!
I am kind of surprised that everyone responding likes the flies. I thought they might be more of interest only to fishermen, but posted them anyway.
I also enjoyed doing the building a lot and I think I will have to look a some pictures here on WC and consider all of the nuances.
