Does anyone know what the longetevity of Kid's tempera and Kid's poster paints is?
Should I acrylic spray varnish over them?

That's really neat!! I love the textures and colors and the spacial peaceful feeling. Kind of Orientalish.
Here's a portrait? I did in them, http://www.wetcanvas.com/ubb/Forum6/HTML/000107.html
and an abstract: http://www.wetcanvas.com/ubb/Forum21/HTML/003271.html
and here's one in still another technique/style.

oops, I forgot the reason why I posted! lol
How long did you wait before spraying? Did the spray darken it? How many coats?
I'll spray mine in a few weeks? then hopefully remember to repost so we can compare differences in the before and after image.

You only had to wait an hour?? Neat! I'll try some sooner then.
Oh yes! I have tons of them. I paint 3 or 4 most every day. Both sides! Over others! On and on and on.. lol.. I can't stop! They're so much fun, because they're so cheap and each brand has such a different consistency/feel to them. Have you tried the Jaz brand yet? Brilliant colors, in fingerpainting gel like feel. Crayola also has out a nice liquid tempera.. as does of course Prang. I mix them all.
I'll make a page for you then post it. http://www.wetcanvas.com/ubb/smile.gif
How about you? Do you have more??
Salmon uses them too!!
I wrote the Prang company hoping for longetevity answers but they haven't written back yet. Maybe if we flood their email, one of us will get answers eventually. http://www.wetcanvas.com/ubb/smile.gif

I only use a Hake brush (need to get various sizes yet!) unless I'm using everything in the house.
Here's one that I used:
tuna can
baby bottle nipple
bubble wrap
paper towel
penny
cassett
fingers
hmmm, forgot all what else.
Anyway, couldn't wait to show ya. http://www.wetcanvas.com/ubb/smile.gif
I do a lot of fingerpainting backgrounds, then do a painting over them too.. but this isn't one of those. lol

These are FANTASTIC you guys!
I use white Tempera with my gouache because it's cheaper.
Dick Blick actually makes a premium grade Tempera - might want to check that out.
It's used by sign painters and theater artists.
This thing about being "archival" ect sometimes annoys me. I think it's great to use what you have around the house - very creative and environmentally friendly.

Sandi,
I really love the 'Bubbles' series. I hadn't seen 'Reflections' before - very lovely!
Have you read "The Tao fo Watercolor' by Jeanine Carbonetti? She has a similar loose and lovely style. You might enjoy her books.

I'm biased, but I love the way the fishman falls 2 abstract came out. Hope you do too!
This page has several scratch methods that were fun.

Yes, when I used to do gouache we all used white tempera instead of gouache. It worked fine.
As for archival, what I like to tell my collectors is..."let your great great grandchildren worry about it then." I say it with a smile and it usually shuts them up, as they hand over their credit card. http://www.wetcanvas.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
Even the most archival paper won't be if left out in direct sunlight. Same with paints or anything else.
