Hi Ar, I must confess i didnt like the way the bottom of the painting showed up in the digital so i cropped it, I fixed the painting and its dry now so i will upload that later tonight,
this is one 140 lb arches WC paper and i did an underpainting of red orange and phatalo green and cerealean blue.
I layered white tissue wrapping paper to the painting with liquitex acrylic clear gesso. This gave me a surface my=uch like the masa paper i have used only with more texture, from there I added some whiteguache and just kept layering watercolor, thanks for your encouragement and kind words, i hope that explains it some,

Well it definitely reads as mountains...and icy, dark mountains at that!! This is really neat, and the more I look, the more I see. And the red makes it even more dramatic. Gorgeous!!

Doug, thank you, I am so glad for a place in WC to stretch my experimental paintbrush, WC was always kind to me but this is an even better forum in which to do this, thanks for looking and for your ongoing encouragemnet

Kat:
Another beautiful painting. But it looks to me like the title should be "Rain on the Roof." Besides the obvious allure of the alliteration, I am captivated by the blue lines and mist that appear like rain and where the small shapes look like rain bouncing up on the roof. Pretty cool. I get so much out of your paintings. :)

Kathy - You've definitely worked the layers on this well! I see a mountain and it's really rocky and craiggy (is that a word?). Very nice work on this!

I really like this, Kat! It has such grandeur. A very imposing peak. The bright colors don't detract, but add to that impression.

 Definately mountains. This approach gives lots of layers, complexity, and so really works with this kind of subject.

Thanks Fran, the interestimg thing is that when I realised the mountain was there, I then followed a photo of the peak I wanted to portray, however I didnt see the depth it was showing untill it uploaded. I guess you can call it "beenlookingatit toolongitis?"
but it did pop out when i posted it, one of those happy hapenstances i think, thanks for noticing...

Have you been reading the Bible lately as this one reminds me of the big flood in Noah's Ark...or maybe it's just me being somewhat spiritual...:D

Hi Rees, glad you liked this enough to stop and look. The Old Testament stories are never far from my mind, I was raised in a very fundamental church, I remained involved in church life untill I was almost 50, I sit more on the sidelines now...but the word pictures and principles are always there, I s'pose this was subconciously painted to that effect, glad you noticed...
