A new project has been announced in the WetCanvas! project system!

Title: Animal Art Scavenger Hunt
Project Leader: just chaos
Relative Difficulty: Irrelevant
Type Restrictions: Any Type
Medium: Any Medium
Subject: Not Applicable
Days open for signups: 61
Maximum participants allowed: Unlimited

Description:

The object is to post a picture corresponding to each letter of the alphabet below. The picture can be from your portfolio but at least a few should be done for the project. This hunt will go from June 1 to Dec. 31, 2007. I have given a description of the categories and some examples. They are only used as examples and not requirements each artist can do any animal that they want as long as they can make it fit the category.

Letter – Description – examples
AIR – Animals that take to the air – Birds, Bats etc
BUNCH- More than one animal in the picture – A herd, flock, farmyard etc,
CURLY – Curly coated animal – Sheep – poodle – etc
DARK – An animal with a dark coat. Friesian, Angus, etc
ELEGANT – An animal that you consider elegant – peacock, swan, Arabian Horse etc
FRILLY – An animal with a frilly edges – Lion Fish, Frilled Lizard etc,
GIANT – Large animal – Elephant, Giraffe, Whale etc
HAIRY – An animal with a shaggy coat - Pony, Orangutan etc
INDIGENOUS – An animal from the artists home Country – US could be Black Bear
JUMPING – Animal who jumps to move – Frogs, Kangaroo etc
KICKING – An animal known to Kick – Horse, Cow (Animal does not have to be actually kicking in Pic)
LONG – A Long animal – Snake, Dachshund etc
MINIATURE – A small animal – Pony, Chihuahua etc
NAKED – An animal with out fur – Naked Mole Rat – Sphinx Cat (no naked people please)
OPULANT- Brightly Colored Animals – Birds of Paradise, Butterflies etc
PART – A portion of an animal – eye, nose etc
QUIET – Animals that are normally Quiet – Rabbits, Giraffe etc
RUNNING – An animal running – Cheetah, Horses etc.
SCALY – Animals with a scaly skin – Pangolin, Fish , Reptiles etc
TEMPER – An animal known to have a bad temper – Rhino etc
UGLY – An animal that you feel is less than beautiful – Aye-Aye, Rat etc
VETERAN – An older animal – Your old pet etc
X-RAY – Draw an animal skeleton – If you don’t want to do bones insects have exo-skeletons
YOUNG – A young animal – Puppy , kitten, cub etc,
ZOO – Any animal that could be in a Zoo – Lion, Tigers & Bears etc

The reference library should have representative animals for all of these categories if you need inspiration.

Very nice running Zebra. I love the colors.

To all of you thank you for joinig. I am running this project for this month while I am on a road trip. I spent today in Disneyland and then drove to Barsto. I am driving across country so I will be checking, just not as often as I coukd if I were at work.
The time on this project has been extended to 6 months to give people time to cover all the letters.

Fiber art latch hook....It's framed in plexiglass and wood. The photo was taken after framing which caused some glare...blurred spots. Next time I'll photograph before framing.

Never heard of the smashed flower technique :confused: but then I do not do much watercolor. I works well. Beautiful picture, you can feel the wind hitting the butterfly.

My elegant Gemsbok. They are such stately animals. Inquisitive, in that they wonder why any one would want to come into the desert without an onbord airconditioning unit like they have, and true Kings and Queens of the desert.
One day with alot of practice, I think that I may be able to paint one of these glorious animals. Known to those outside of the African continent as Oryx.

It seems that the thumbnail wasn't automatically generated for my progress entry, so I'm going to try and add the entry here as an attachment to see if that does anything...
I've tried to post the image three or four times, I've renamed the original file to get rid of a dash and an underscore. The original was resized and is smaller than 500 X 600. I'm at a loss :confused:

I was really at a loss.Yep... That's why my circular thumbnail isn't (a thumbnail, that is) and why Retha's bear is so large.

... and thank you to all who have commented on my work. I've been on vacation for the last three weeks so haven't had the time to thank each of you personally. But I'm back home now and able to sit down any time to check on WC posts at will. I'll do some paintings/drawings soon but, since printmaking is my first love, I'm more apt to create in that medium first.

Lovely Blue Frog! Night Heron...we had tons of these in Saskatchewan Canada
where I just moved away from, there was a national wildlife area with extensive wetlands...in evening tons of them would gather on the reeds that were fallen down in the shallows of the marshes...I have a neat pic I'd love to send you of one sitting on them, is a sunset silhouette photograph...Love it, excellent work!:clap:

It's lovely...re: pencil works and scanning of them etc...what settings are you using, to scan your original...are you using regular scan, or optical scan? What scan resolution setting are you using? and you are using gray scale? I had a time also when I first started transferring pencil works ...they'd look not as detailed or blurred from the original quality, or grainy etc...but by George I think I've got it now! But still is a wonderful work of the Canadian Geese!:clap:

I used a photo taken with a digital camera for this. I am not sure why it doesn't come out looking like the paper is nearly white. I took the photo of the artwork outdoors hoping the daylight would give a better result.

wow beautiful, how big is the finished painting?

I'd say it's about a 14X20....something like that. It's not too too large, but big enough to cramp up my scanner :o I'll have to see if I can get it good with my digital camera

So cool! I didn't know rhinos would hang out together.

(I just looked up rhino on wikipedia and they "claim" that there is a species of Rhino that is native to Southern Canada - er - I don't think so! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhinoceros)

EP, just to answer your question, most rhinos are solitary animals, but one species, the White Rhinoceros, forms groups (or crashes). I'm a bit of a rhino nut.
