Still Photos from DVD or Video

I just purchased a new computer and I would like to get still photos from a DVD I recorded. I have no idea how to do this and what will I need to do it. Can someone please help me out? Any replies are appreciated, thanks.

You will need software that breaks the film down into frame images. Have you got digital video editing software? You should be able to pull stills out of that.

I too would like to take still photos from a videoclip, but I am very much a beginner. I googled video editing software, but was lost in a sea of technological terms and could not find any specific reference to the still photos. Does anyone have a program that they can recommend ? :)

I believe that Pinnacle http://www.pinnaclesys.com/PublicSite/us/Home/ is one of the best you can get but that is only hearsay on my part, it has an excellent reputation. The only video editing I do are on the 30 sec blasts on my digicams and I can do that in my DVD burning software.
