Home from the hospital and not much to do. I tried to paint these roses.
My very first attempt at flowers. I am wondering how it looks, what could be improved, etc. Any comments appreciated.
thanks,
Nora

Hi Nora
This is a wonderful first attempt.
I like how you have shown the roses from different angles.
The vase is perfect and the highlights show off the texture.
The top seems a bit dark but that could be the scan.

Hope you are on a speedy road to recovery :)

Hi Nora,

Not bad for a first attempt... NOT at all! :) You did a fantastic job here, especially on the roses (wonderful rendering!) and those very light, "feathery" strokes in between. However, you might want to add a bit more white patches on the lower right side of the vase to make the shape look more symmetrical. Other than that, I think you've achieved a very good "glassy look" on the vase. It's a lovely design.

Well, there goes my two cents' worth. Hope it made sense somehow. :D

Thanks, Leaflin- painting the flowers did cheer me up when I wans't able to much else. And this painting is kind of dark- might have had something to do with my mood at the time!! ?

Thanks for the critique. You're right about the vase. I need some more detail if I want it to be believable. What I was trying to do here mostly- paint something besides people or animals :) and get it all done in a day with a limited palette. I wanted that impressionistic look.

Thanks- both you guys for taking a minute to give me some feedback!!
