This is one of my first attempts at a painting in acrylics. I would appreciate any constructive criticism.

Thanks Rob.

This is my favorite bird, I plan on painting one someday. I am so new at painting I can only offer my opinion so take it with a grain of salt cause I may not know of what I speak :) but I think a few highlights in the body of the bird would be nice.

Rob this is very good for early attempts at acrylic. Your background trees are delightful. A few little highlights and darks for the wing feathers would make this even better. Well done.

I agree with all the above, its a great piece for a beginning. The background seems a bit empty, something like a lake and distant shoreline would give more depth as would some more variation in the tree colors. The figure itself is a great base, with some details and shading/highlights it would be quite stunning.. perhaps browsing through the animal and wildlife section would give you some tips

Wonderful beginning and you have some great advice. Think about adding a highlight to the bird's eye, this will help to bring it alive.

Welcome to the forum.

MY favorite bird, too. They are just beautiful. I think everyone is giving you some great advice...You need more darks and lights and it will pop.
