Welcome to Classical Art Journey.

Here's some of the things we have talked about doing
that we have not done yet for our 12 Monthly Challenge, just
an update ;)

Anyone want to add to this list for folks to think about feel free.

One idea for next year might be

to compose an original drawing or painting

using a borrowed sculpted figure as the main character.
I have read that one of my favorite painters,
Francisco Hayez used several Canova sculptures
as the base models for his paintings. Just an idea.

Classical subjects in a contemporary age

Animal & Wildlife
Classical approach & technique

Artwork from Life Classical
(painted from life)
(from photographs)
(adding imagination)

Bodyparts

Bird of India

Greek mythology

Book of Kells

Images of manuscripts

"Book of Hours" Images

I think it could be a good idea to try everybody the same study.. nevertheless I also like the freedom of this "journey "! ... I'd really like to continue it ! A good idea could perhaps be to suggest a subject to study freely ... do you remember the "peacock week " (week 39)

It would be really nice if we could agree on subjects and write an article or essay on different subjects for our forum. We have been introduced to many new artists. Some new techniques. Anyway think about it, let me know if there is any interest.

Otherwise, pick up your pencils or brushes, or sticks and make art.

Hey tyree... this one is great! What a great composition , and I like the guy's expression too! Does it really look like him ? I find it so difficult to get the resemblance in portraits !

I'm amazed by all the great work coming in the tree challenge too...

Nickel's list is interesting.. I agree with an animal challenge ...have a good time ... all of you!

Thanks Susan, it's kind of an interesting comp to paint too. Been working backward into the painting from bottom to top. Got to get back to it the first of this week or Mony may fuss at me. :)

Let's keep this week's thread running until the end of April. I think people must be busy. You know that is what we did these threads for to keep from being too busy for art, lol, life has a way of sneaking in.

Hope you & everyone else has a very nice weekend.

Nickel - I like the way the dogwood is in the foreground but the midground & background is there for meandering - looking forward to seeing more of it

Tyree - your landscape ocean rocks is lovely - you also have a good composition there - especially like all the detal on the foreground rocks - you have grown alot with these sketches - the sky is good too, subtle but detailed......

Today , I will find my tree painting to copy - I am looking for something oriental, maybe I'll find something Hokusai

Hi Ladies,
welcome back Azulparsnip, I want to hear about the trip too. :)

Susan, your lighthouse is really nice, I like the clouds and the rocks
in the foreground the best.

Yoda's picture looks like a painting by Van Gogh. It must be the chair.
You should paint this.

Well you are all busy with your trees that is so good to hear.
Can't wait to see them.

Good Morning -

okay - about the trip - Hawaii is a beautiful place, the people are very cheerful. Nature and beauty is an ever present mantel, underneath which abides a variety of cultures and remnant-reminders of aggression.

It was odd to be a minority. Most faces were Oriental or Polyneasian.

Ate coconut & avacados every day.

Seeing our daughter and her husband was one of the highlights. She is doing great and it was the first time we really spent time getting to know him.

They took good care of us- going to a different place on Oahau every day plus shopping, bicycling, beaching, even got my first pedicure complete with orange polish:lol:

That trip will be a deep resourse for a long time.

and thanks for asking -

laundry & perspective study today -

Have a GOOD one , friends.

Susan, awesome work indeed! Thanks for sharing her here! :)

I have a question

Who is going to volunteer to do challenge 5 and
what is it going to be?

:) Nickel

azulparsnip
04-29-2007, 07:00 PM
Well, I am up to my usual trick of waiting till the last minute on the monthy challenge - I did make it up town to do an april sketch of the confederate soldier but I must say I am getting miffed with these 20 minute sketches - my goal for may is to spend at least 40 minutes on the next sketch of this guy.

Hope to get a tree something done tommorrow.

As for the next one - I would like to do mermaids sometime. What does one do to qualify to submit the idea????

Nickel
04-29-2007, 10:21 PM
Azulparsnip, you are so good at making goals and sticking to them.

It'd be cool to do mermaids for challenge 5.
If you volunteer, start the
thread. Decide the rules you want for the challenge, or no rules.

I'd like to see more people working on our challenge projects together
as a group rather than
posting something they have already done.
That's just my opinion.
However, you all can do whatever you want and
I'll support you.
I'll link up an announcement. Mermaids count as animals right? :D

I know a merman must be an animal ;)
