I recently completed my first commission. These are similar to some baby bedding, and the client wanted original art of the animals with the same colors to go in the new baby's room.

I used ink for the outlines and gouache everywhere else. I hate to admit my love for cute animals may mean a future of children's art. But... these were so fun!

C&C welcome. Gouache certainly isn't smooth on cold press watercolor paper, so I textured them all with small brushstrokes. 5x7" each.

Meg, these are wonderful! I suspect a lot of artists have done rather well doing children's art. You do it well!

Meg I showed your art work to two of my grandchildren. You now have three groupies well done.

very fun! Children art is so much fun, but from what I hear extremely competitive and almost impossible to get into. But I'm sure you could make nice money by painting things like these as murals on children's rooms and selling framed prints at street art festivals etc. I particularly like the lion with that curious look on his face!

Oliver,

Thanks! Yeah, I've heard the same about breaking into the field, at least in terms of illustration. I'd need a lot more experience before I thought about giving it a go. For now, these cute little commissions will keep me smiling.
