Camellia Sinensis

I was a bit aprehensive about working on claybord (textured), but I really enjoyed it! This was my first attempt but will not be my last. The shadows are too dark, I guess. Anyway, please comment and share tips about working on this surface, if you have any! :)

It's beautiful!
You seem to be in total control of the medium and surface.

This is is very nice, Camellia. Especially like the natural look of the blending of color against the white, e.g. on the bottom petal and also the yellow on the very tips of some of the other petals. It's O'Keefe-like. Your 1st use of this media? I can definitely understand why you will try it again.

Thanks for the encouraging comments everyone! I must say, it was a lot easier that I expected. Contrary to what I had read elsewhere, it was pretty easy to layer glazes on this surface, providing that each layer was left to dry. And no buckling!:)
I forgot to mention that I sprayed it with 3 coats of fixative. After that I dropped a litle water on the surface and it wasn't disturbed. I guess I can risk framing without glass.

You have a beautifully soft touch! Terrific composition, with just the bit of that dark background.

Lovely flower - the shadows are not too dark, they look perfectly natural to me.

Camellia,
I just bought some small square clayboard pieces to try. You've given me encouragement since this is your first try and you enjoyed it.
It really turned out very nicely. I like your cast shadows on the petals. :D

Thank you again to all who took time to leave these nice comments. :) Sylvia. I hope you have as much fun as I did with these little squares. Next time I will try a bigger one!

I don't know what clayboard is, but there are a lot of subtle touches here, so it looks like you know what you're doing! I'll look for clayboard at the artstore sometime.

Just saw that you said you would try bigger next time...hadn't realized this was just 5 x7! For some reason it looks so much bigger!
