Hi... After being inspired by some of the machinery pieces others have been posting.. I decided to take a stab at one. This TTC traktor was just soaking up some sun near an underpass a few blocks away!! I got about 3 hrs with it there.. and then some guy came and drove it away!! sigh. this one 8x10" prob 3.5hr. 5 colours used. The photo is a bit glary.
c&c always welcome.
cheers, Mike

Mike, very nicely done!
I've been eyeing some similar subjects, as there's construction in the core here.

Hey Mike, nice one! The colours are 'magnetic'..Good drawing here.:)
Take care.
The way land is being developed everywhere, we all better become interested
in painting construction equipment. Or house portraits. Landscape? What's
a landscape?
Well, regardless, you've done a really nice job here. Great drawing and colors,
it just jumps right off the page.

Darn inconsiderate of the TTC! Oh the perils of plein air work. Nice job.

You nailed this one Mike. This rocks. I like the cool purple light on the upright shovel arm. Nice touch.

Go Mikey!
I saw one of these the other day too in town where they are re-doing the street but I had to restrain myself from going back to the house for painting equipment. I did mention to my girlfriend "where the heck is Bill Wray when you need him!".
Great work on this one Mike. It's a thing of beauty now.

Thanks Jim! It's funny now since winter has abruptly ended.. I've noticed a whole pile of new pieces of machinery like things to paint! I guess construction goes full out once the snow is gone!
Thanks Frank!.. I really fought to get some solid drawing in this one.

Many Thanks BIll.. I think I have to credit you, Stefan, and your friend Jennifer's work for showing me the potential in subjects like these. Had I not seen your guys "industrial" stuff... I don't think I would have thought to paint it.

very cool.....wonderful!!!!
The other night, when I painted the last light and posted that piece...I had first eyed up a tractor that is used to cut trees and haul 'em out of the woods nearby...called a "skidder"...
sittin' back parked up against woods on the other side of my truck...
I too have been impressed with all the cool paintings...but, I looked at that opening of water....the trees, looked back at the tractor, back and forth again...and went, "naw!!!!" hahaaa....
Maybe sometime down the road...I'll give 'er a go...
but there is no disputing the fact that this is a very fine painting!!!!

Thanks much Larry! Funny you mention a skidder. I have a friend who is an arbourist.. he is always talking about these things.. they truly are strange looking machines I think. I'd love to get a chance to paint one.!

Ha Chris, I was wondering about this as I posted this piece.. I was thinking.. this is plein air, but I wasn't really sure I would call it a landscape?? I guess there should be a new vein coined "urban". There is soooooo much junk to paint within city limits.. it's really mindboggling when ya think about it.

Thanks Ron.. I was thinking the same thing when I saw it.. I thought.. hmmm looks like something that Bill would paint... so I did :p . Next time I see one I will ask myself a different question... what are the odds of that thing being moved in the next 3 hrs!!! (Any advice with this one Bill? .. seems like a bit of a crap shoot with machinery and vehicles?)

You don't have too, but it's classy you did. :)

"Urban Landscape" sounds about right!
I hope you didn't mis-interpret my comments...in no way was I questioning
whether this painting belonged here. It certainly is a landscape painting (and
more importantly, a plein air painting). I was just reacting to the general
trend for suburbanization, where every available plot of land must be built into
"something". For the past 5 months I've been watching a McMansion going
up directly across the street, it and the accompanying huge separate
garage almost completely obscure what was a beautiful view across
hundreds of acres of farmland. And yet I know people who have beautiful
homes for sale, and no buyers...
And WalMart recently gulped up another nice lot a couple of miles from here,
to build a supercenter. That's bad enough, but it's actually within sight of
the previous WalMart location! So now that old WalMart sits vacant, within
sight of the new Supercenter.
Sorry, don't mean to sidetrack your thread, I'm in a strange mood tonight.
