View Full Version : Onions, Garlic, And One Tomato

I have been working on this today. I think the tomato looks like an apple in the picture, but not so much in real. I have never done garlic or onions before. I think I need to work on them more. But I like the painting, and will try more. I usually do landscapes, but for some reason I am doing veggies for the last two days. Just a phase I guess. all c&c welcome. I think the tomato and garlic read very well but the onions seem a little flat in color. nice composition

Thank you, I have varnished them, and it brought out the onions some. I want to try purple onions next time. Jan

If ye orange the tomato a wee more, then be more like tomato in look....

I like the painting and you did great painting the elements. Maybe next time you might think about bringing more of the red/orange into the onion. :)

Thanks Ann, that would help it. I never thought of that. Jan

Jan, I think you are doing so well with these still lifes. I like this one especially. The tomato looks like a tomato, not like an apple.
It's almost as though there is room for more to your still life behind the bowl of vegetables. Maybe on the upper right side? Just a suggestion. It is very nice "as is".

Hi Jan - some nice painting in the veg, and yes, a little more yellow in the red of the tomato for the light areas ..... yellow in the onion skins too probably.
I like your arrangement of the veg and bowl but it's position on the paper/canvas is rather too low: try to think of a bit more base and less top in your next one (cos you've already varnished this one :D)
Edit: I see Linda and I have xposted - but thinking along similar lines!

Thank you all, I plan on trying some more still life. I never really considered doing them but I have found they are fun. Jan
