I was over at The Switchboards (http://www.theswitchboards.com) last night and was looking around for ways to promote my site, get more traffic - and found a few things... and then I was thinking, why can't we do this in our Wearable Arts forum? The more links our sites get from all over the net, the higher we rank in the search engines, the more traffic we get. So link me, I'll link you!

Del.icio.us:

do any of you use del.icio.us ? http://del.icio.us/ If so, want to trade linking? Here's what it is in case you are like I was last night and had no clue: http://www.theswitchboards.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10221 - I went through last night and linked/tagged all the people in that thread hoping I'd get linked tagged in return - but we should do it here too. Read about it and if you want to, post your link and your tags!

Here's mine if you want to add me - and I'll add anyone who puts their info out here too:

Stumble!:

Do you stumble? (http://www.stumbleupon.com/) It's a way to link to sites as well - add a site and it gets into a network and other people come across it.

http://bluebetween.stumbleupon.com/ is my stumble account. Friend me, I'll friend you!

And then "thumbs up" our sites. I'll thumbs up everyone's sites who posts in this thread.

Etsy:
List your etsy site - I'll "heart" you!

Anyone else have some good site promotion ideas? Link exchanges? If so, please share!

Polly, no you can't add links to your etsy store... but you could start a blog and add links to that. http://www.blogger.com is nice.

Visit http://www.stumbleupon.com/ to see what it is - basically it's a tool bar you add to your browser that you can click thumbs up or thumbs down on sites and it calculates the kinds of sites you like to see and then when you are surfing, you can click the stumble button and it feeds you a random link that you might like based on your favorite sites. I don't know that I've ever gotten a sale from being listed in it... but the more places your site is liste, the better the search engines rank you. I'm into Search Engine Optimization (SEO) today. LOL

As far as your site is concerned... I don't know what to tell you - do you have any way to add a "links" page to it? You'd have to be able to update it regulary to "exchange" links.

This is very interesting! I need more time to look at it all - but I will, honest! And I have to get my site up and functional. *sigh* So much to do, so little time...

About Etsy though, every time someone adds me as a favorite I wonder if they really like my stuff or if they just want to cross promote. I hearted someone yesterday whose prints I think are fabulous and she added me to her list too. Automatically, for politeness, or because she likes my work? Dunno...

I wish we could have two favorite lists - one for public view and one for the people we really want to be able to find again quickly. :) My favorites so far are all shops I hearted because I like their stuff and want to be able to browse through them again. I'll go add you all in later though, because it is good business sense. You're mostly there already anyway, and would have been added sooner or later regardless. I visit your Etsys from your signatures regularly.

I will heart you all this weekend, if that is ok with you all. I have been wanting to put some items back out on etsy again for sale.

I'm not on etsy but I'll get on delicious and maybe stumble later - don't want to add the toolbars here at work.

If anyone wants to link to me, thats fine. I'll link to you on my blog. (I don't link on my personal jewelry website) My blog is:

http://doxallodesigns.blogspot.com

my website is:

http://www.doxallo.com

Also, I will list anyone who wants to be listed on the Jewelry Artists Network Website. Just send me your information (location, name, url)

that website is:
http://www.jewelryartistsnetwork.com (you do NOT have to link back, you are under no obligation whatsoever to do so) oh, and THIS: http://www.jewelryartistsnetwork.com/members.html is the page where you'll show up. Eventually I'll be adding a page with people's work - kind of a showcase - if you want a photo there just send it to me. hmm, maybe i"ll actually put a thumbnail on the member page by each person's name. On the showcase page, any photo will be hotlinked to your website.

Thanks for starting the topic, I love promoting others - thats why we started the network website - one more place for people to get their work out there and to share ideas. :)

This was something I wanted to do originally, but I wasn't sure anybody else would go for it :D Now I don't have a site.. but within a few months, I should be up and running again. (As soon as I have some inventory to actually post. I'm making stuff for fall atm.) The great thing about cross-linking is that you can 'keep it in the family'--not everyone can cater to every style, but among a group of us, we can cater to most styles :)

Hollie, the site making isn't the hard part--it's the promoting! lol. Although I have scores and scores of site-making tips, as I've been making websites for about 8 years now, I'll leave that to your sister. Just two caveats: make sure the navigation is simple and that it looks clean and professional, or people might navigate away from your space before they even get a chance to look :( Also, enter your site into major search engines as soon as you have the URL (address) that you're going to stick with; someone from Canada found me randomly that way, and bought over $200 worth of stuff!
