Taller Portobelo Norte issues a Request for Proposals for the 10th Annual 2007 Summer Art Colony & ArteFeria Exhibition in Portobelo, Panama.

Taller Portobelo Norte (TPN), an international artists collective, invites artists of all disciplines and media to submit project proposals for work to be developed during the 10th Annual 2007 Taller Portobelo Norte Summer Art Colony and ArteFeria Exhibition. TPN aims to provide a space for visionary artists whose work stimulates ideas and expands artistic boundaries and conventions. The goal of the residency is to support artists in realizing works-in-progress and the production of new work. TPN Summer Art Colony and ArteFeria participants are selected based on their dedication to their art practice, artistic innovation, and craftsmanship. Work created during the residency may be eligible to be exhibited at ArteFeria de Portobelo 2007, which will take place on Saturday, June 23. The deadline for applications is April 2, 2007.

Founded in 1997 by Dr. Arturo Lindsay, a Panamanian born artist and Professor of Art and Art History at Spelman College in Atlanta, GA, the Summer Art Colony has consistently attracted artists, scholars and students from throughout the country interested in the visual and performing arts and cultures of the African Diaspora, ethnographic and anthropological research, Spanish and Latin American Studies, and responsible and ethical tourism. The culminating exhibition, ArteFeria de Portobelo 2007, will celebrate the ten-year anniversary of the program.

ArteFerias de Portobelo - Portobelo Art Fairs - is a biannual cultural event named in remembrance of the famous Portobelo merchant fairs of the Colonial period. ArteFeria was created in 2003 as a way to affirm that Portobelo would be again a space of international cultural encounters, not of merchants selling slaves or gold, but of artists of different countries and cultures that seek to be united through artistic expression.

ArteFeria 2007 is open to participants of the 2007 TPN Summer Art Colony as well as Panamanian and international artists. TPN encourages both collaborative and independent projects as ways to create a positive multicultural artistic exchange.
