Title: Love Line - My Hair
Year Created: 2007
Medium: Pen/Ink
Surface: Paper
Dimension: 9x12
Allow digital alterations?: Yes!
MY COMMENTS:
Long hair has it's advantages, but then again, it can become a tangle. So, this is how I imagine it in a more friendly artsy way :)
MY QUESTIONS FOR THE GROUP:
What do you think?

its almost like your hair becomes butterfly wings or something. I really love the line quality and the intensity of the design of the hair. The overall piece is beautiful. Maybe you should make an attempt at just doing the abstract thing on a another piece. . . you are quite good at it.

Looks like you just got out of the shower!!! I am enjoying the perspective of this as well as your quality of line. Just an idea... what if you did these on some cool paper like this???

The ones with the more subtle color variations. They have great paper there.

I tried to give it some background in PSP, but I always go back to loving the black and white. I think it's just my preference.

When I opened this thread the image was cut off at the bottom. Very interesting, and as I scrolled down it just got better! I love the way it works down to the face. You've got great movement in this. My eye is travelling all over. It's a wonderful mix of abstract and real. and then you realize its all real... or is it. You get a high interest rating on this one!! nice curl back on the strands. This keeps the viewer from wandering out of the picture.

It started from a photo I took of myself one day when I was trying to get lots of different perspectives on my own face, shape of the jaw, nose, etc. I liked the way my hair was so crazy all over, even crazier than the drawing, oh and blonde! THe face is me basically and the hair is one of my favorite kinds of intercecting lines. I'm going through a phase of this kind of thing, so be warned, there will be more :)

Here is the original photo. I got rid of the eyes and what forehead was showing because it didn't fit in just righ for me. My 10 year old nephew said "that's ok, it just looks like you're looking more up." hahaha so , there ya go.

Very intriguing....I can't stop looking at it!
The tendrils growing upward are insectlike, full of fantasy, delicate and strong at the same time. I expect them to keep lengthening and curving while the billowing air pockets below keep growing...
Nice work!

Dang, you all are very kind. Trust me, there's a lot of these to come. I am going through a certain moment in time when all I want to draw are these black and white entries into my collection. I have about 50 so far and they keep on coming. I wish I had the nerve to take them to a local gallery to see about a show, but my confidence isn't quite there yet...someday maybe.

shel silverstein, steven gammell, ralph steadman and you. pen and ink wickedness. i think you would dig the illustrations im working on for my book. black and white and wild. the way you interpreted the photograph is all yours. brilliant.
I wish I had the nerve to take them to a local gallery to see about a show, but my confidence isn't quite there yet...someday maybe.
Save your pennies for a bunch of simple black high gloss frames, all the same, and no glare glass. Take pix of all your works, and get yourself a showing.
I've only got a few nerves left, but no ones been getting on them recently so I'll give you one ... one 'nerve' for cidtalk

La, you are too kind:) I will wear that nerve very thin very quickly..I will try to reserve it for bravery to call a gallery, but chances are it will wear thin if I use it to deal with the rest of the world :)

I like your intuition to watch a subject from an unusual perspective, your ability to play with the shapes, the creativity that allows you to invent an abstraction and to transform your hair in a foaming top of a wave.
I apolgy for my english, I hope you can understand my words.

Thanks for your posts. I appreciate your time. I'm excited to get to another one of these, but I don't want them to look alike, or get boring.

I think that your only worry must be this one: to follow what your mind suggests you in the moment.

I apology for expressing myself in the wrong way, my intention was to suggest you to stop thinking to theory when painting and just abandon yourself to the emotional stream of your own thoughts and consciousness.

I think about theory and what art education less than I think about doing my taxes 11 months of the year, and that ain't much!! :)
