I do and it's great. Love the white areas you created.
Could I interest you in doing a WIP of your work for us, I am sure that there are more of us out there who would like to see what you do and hear from you why and how you do it.

sorry that you can't see it, i recall this happening to someone once before and the solution was simply to press the 'quote' button as if meaning to reply - perhaps you can see it then?

thanks, i'm already thinking about doing a wip as they have asked for one in the abs/con forum as well. i've been so busy painting that i have not been able to take too many photos during my painting process so far. also it has been dark and cloudy but the weather will get better as spring arrives.
i've been greatly inspired by helen frankenthaler's acrylic paintings in the 1970ies. she attached masking tape on her canvas. "i used tape as drawing" she said. she covered the taped surface with washes of varying colors or "tints" as she called them. she removed or adjusted the tapes while the tints were still wet, allowing colors to seep into the previously masked areas. some new tape was also applied and covered with new washes.
i've developed my own painting style on this basis, using watercolors and sometimes fluid acrylics as well. i may also use bamboo skewers for scratching. in my paintings the white areas are the white of the paper, i use white paint only for mixing lighter colors.

I love the texture here and splashes of red, good contrast!!
thanks kat! the reds (and greens & dark blues) are watercolor underpainting. the light blues are acrylics, painted over with a big flat brush.

My taste in art runs to realism and representationalism... but I have to say that your paintings are so beautifully striking... in colour and composition! Your textures are gorgeous... I, sincerely, appreciate where you're taking your abstracts and I'm enjoying them thoroughly!
A wip would really be interesting and I hope you'll be able to find the time to do it!

This is wonderful! So full of motion...and life...
Does the title refer to a fish?
I, too, would love to see a wip.
I really enjoy abstract art..to look at/buy...but have been, so far, too timid to let MYSELF go there. Your painting is an inspiration
When you start an abstract painting, do you generally have a concept in mind and consciously paint to express the concept? Or do you just unconsciously paint...and let a concept emerge?
Thanks for posting. :)

thanks mary! yes gadidae is a family of marine fish, including pollock etc.

i always start with a strong visual concept which i have consciously thought about and i'll know what colors to buy when going shopping and so on. but i cannot put the concept easily into words and often the title is invented long after the painting is finished.

I, too, love the motion, energy, and color in this painting! I've always been partial to realistic/representational work but, lately, have seen sooo many awesome abstracts that I'm starting to get more interested in trying it out for myself (which I NEVER would have imagined myself saying a year or two ago!) Bravo!

thank you michele! abstract art is definitely an acquired taste as it's more concerned with forces than objects but there's a lot of good stuff to be discovered in that world if you give it a chance.

This just makes me want to try an abstract!! The bold movement of the brush strokes sets my eye moving around the canvas!!

thanks darla, i think using big brushes leads to bold movement quite naturally and it suits abstract style perfectly.
