It is definitely time for spring to come...we are having another deep cold front from the arctic...I had to haul wood in to keep us warm.

Here are a few of the beads I worked on this weekend. I am very happy with them. I can't wait to see what you all have for today! Impressive work everyone...this is a drive by posting for me, too many hours in the studio today.

Here's a set that I did yesterday. Disks (39) are all approximately 4mm wide but are graduated. They range from 13mm to 25mm in diameter. They are intended to be a neck piece.

Have been lurking but not posting much lately- actually been staying up too late making beads (usually from about 11 PM till 4 AM)---Anyway, have been doing this a year now, and to celebrate went out and boutght 3 doz new mandrels. WHAT A DIFFERENCE! Didn't realize how badly bent mine had become in the struggles of the first year getting beads off of them. Also finally got silver leaf, reduction frits, and a large coin bead press. Making SIS is now a new passion, and have gone back to remake everything I have tried, using it in the designs. AND have made some truly wonderful things, which I have not yet photographed.

But the story of what I am showing tonight...My sister came out for a suprise visit from New Hampshire..and brought snow with her from the east coast to ruin my California spring! I did get even by featuring an earthquake for her on her last night visiting!

She came out to learn how to make beads. So I sat down with her, talked through the basics, and she watched me make 2 beads. Well then she sat herself down and proceeded to make perfectly round and stunning beads for the next 6 hours! (It took me 3 weeks before I got anything round!)

Our second session, while chatting while we were both working at our hotheads, she got distracted, quit twirling, and her bead slumped almost off the mandrel. So I ran over and paddled it into a heart shape for her. And kind of liked the result. So I then made a series of hearts for the rest of the day - making nice beads, encasing most, and then overheating them! And then started decorating most of them on edges, as I have a thing for Mexican style folk art where one of the guiding principles is that if something can be further embellished, it should be! So here are my heart of stone series, along with one larger triangular bead whih acually was stunning enough slumped to leave as is. -Michael

As for other beadsshown tonight, some comments on those looked at so far...

Xiola - great composition and clors in those florals!
Ellen - love those color selections! opalino glasses? And the silver, do you use leaf or foil?
Juls-I like, I like - want to be able to do things like that!
Crazybeadlady - besides getting off on your handle, those beads are wonderfully fun!
vivbama - wonderful malachite looking beads!
Debby - such patience and control in those great florals. I would have messed up soemwhere 2/3 of the way through the second layer of petals.
Jayne- love the shapes and colors. I need to find out about raku type work, as I really like the colors.
Koregon- I could never wear those, cause I would always be staring at them!
and there are more and more.... All are just incredible. Always makes me afraid to post my own efforts!

Gnarla - most of those beads were made with ASK and the other were Moretti pastel. The silver is wire and SIS.

Great show today!

03-06-2007, 10:20 AM
Hii all,
It's a beautilful Show & Tell again. I always start my day coming here and looking at all the fantastic beads you are making. But today there is something I'd like to share with you. I bought a lentil bead press from "Pinarhakim" and made pressed beads for the first time in my life. It was so much fun and I love the results. Hope you like them as well.

03-06-2007, 11:34 AM
I need to go back and look at all the beautiful beads. Here's a floral I made using a little nyx. - I'm loving this stuff!

Have a great day!

03-06-2007, 11:41 AM
Thanks for the kind words everyone!! Kaye, if I buy the beads can I get the car to match??

LOL! If so, I'll be waiting a little south of you for a ride in it, viv!

03-06-2007, 01:17 PM
Wow! Gorgeous showcase today. I'm off to a late start, my parents just left after a four-day visit. I'm happy that they came, loved having them here, and I"m just as pleased that they left. I sold my first set on eBay over the weekend, which has given me enough encouragement to list a couple more sets. But first, I have to show them off here. I have to ask, tho, is there a 'name generator' out there somewhere for bead sets, because I must say, coming up with something that doesn't sound completely dorky is about the hardest part about listing on eBay.

So, 'Lapis Haiku'...

And Heliotrope Sunset (I know, AWFUL name, but it was either that or 'purple organic thingus')

03-06-2007, 01:31 PM
Great work everyone! I am having one of my creative slumps! It is frustrating to add so many beads to the reject pile every day! Here are a few I haven't shown yet.
Have a wonderful Tuesday!

03-06-2007, 01:42 PM
Holy cow you guys! This showcase has just been awsome. I can't pick a favorite because they are all just beautiful!

Keep up the wonderful work all!
