hi all...
not sure if this sounds like it means much, but for me...it is HUGE. i have a consultant/agent here in los angeles that recently took me on (since my move back here). she is a big name in the art scene here in LA, and i had to submit my work for her to consider consulting.
what is a consultant you ask...well, she basically grooms me for the art world. she picks and chooses my work, critiques it, gives me direction when i am flayling along, etc. she is like a professional art mom who weilds alot of power in the LA scene.
to give you an idea of her standing here in LA, she is on the board of the County Museum (LACMA), MOCA/geffen contemporary, the getty, sits on juries here and is currently guest currating the warhol show that is coming up at MOCA. not to mention that she used to own one of the hottest galleries here.
anyway, needless to say, when she speaks...i listen.
recently, she put me in her exclusive LA group!!! she adds someone new to this group every 2 years, and this time around i am it! what that means is that she is pushing me with these 8 others as representation of her little art darlings. sounds strange, but lets put it this way.
last night was my first meeting attended where i met the other artists that she is grooming. i had to bring some work with me for all to talk about, and to introduce myself with. one of the guest members that helps run the group is an art critic for Art in America , besides being a freelance art critic for various other publications. he critiqued my work for me one on one, talked about my work's impact, etc. i was also critiqued by the other artists...lets put it this way, i am the only member of this group that doesn't have a studio assistant! some have 3!
i am floored, excited, scared, elated, intimidated, surprised, you name it...my heart is pumping these days.
anyway, thanks for listening, i know it doesn't sound like much...but here in LA, i was just invited to play with the big boys and girls, whew!
it is a step that is necessary here for anything of substance to happen to you, otherwise you get lost in a quagmire of juried group shows, until you are discovered. i just got to skip that step coming back to LA. WOW!
thanks for listening, i just needed to express my excitement.
