I like the minimal look, the warmth in the painting. The bear is a sweetie.

Just like a bear I used to own! Working from life is more difficult than one would think and you did a great job!

LOL @ Robert!
Thanx Ann, I was hoping for a warm, cuddly feel.
Carol he is my Mums, she has tons of them on a beautiful antique bench in her guestroom.
Thanx Taz, I like his expression too, he looked well fed up with me while I was painting him...A bare bear with attitude! LOL!
Thanx Leslie...Isn't it just, a whole other experience! When I started watercolours back in 2003 all I did was paint from life, I saw a big difference/improvement in my work when I started to use references. I think refs are an excellent way to learn values and colour mixes as they give you less to think about.
I'm enjoying working from life again, the challenge can be quite addictive and I believe it is bringing a whole new dimension to my work.

Nice cuddly little bear! My dil has a collection of them too.... but she works at Baylor University in Waco (Baylor Bears!).
I know what you mean about painting from real life. I have been using refs most of the time and tried a still life and couldn't seem to even PAINT! LOL
But your posting has stimulated me to WANT to try the challenge again1 Thanx... Gigi

Nice colours.....very warm, as teddy bears always should be...

Gigi, I'm so pleased to have urged you to try to paint from life again. I'm currently attempting it without a pencil sketch too (double trouble) and going straight in with paint. It has taught me a valuable lesson...A canvas is a workable surface! ;)

Well, you have a bunch of reliable models waiting on that antique bench of your Mum's. This one looks ready for a good cuddle. Challenging indeed going straight in with paint.
