Technically it's a plein air, although since I was sitting on my balcony I was hardly braving the wilds. :D Oil, 8 x 10

Oh yeah, I forgot to say that I used your "ragging in" technique, Larry, for the first time on this one. Worked great! Really shortened my process.

The mixture of colors is very effective...it dances. Yax

Thanks, Yax, that was what I was going for. Photographing reds is really tough, so I re-did this one-- this new picture is more true to the painting.

I didn't pay much attention to composing this one because I was so focused on the new technique and the color effect, but I'm starting a larger studio painting of it today-- composed, in sun rather than shade, and hopefully I can keep the glow effect, but make a much better painting.

Lisa, I like this one very much. I agree with Yax that the color dances.

It has a modern look to it. I could see it being utilized as someone's logo. Very nice design.

Very pretty painting. You inspire me to do more still lives. I like the feel of it.

This really isn't a plein air, but I based it partly on this plein air, partly on a photo, and partly on walking outside to my patio to look again (sometimes with my value scale.) Anyway, it was great fun, all those luscious pinks and purples, and the light effect, although strange, really does happen like that at a particular moment in the afternoon. Oil, 12 x 16, all comments welcome!
