Here are some stills from the feature that aired in December on Maryland Public TV's Artworks This Week (see write-up (http://www.mpt.org/artworks/thisweek/archive/2006/061213.cfm)). This was the second time they had me on in 2006. They got a bunch of really good shots, asked me questions that gave me a chance to speak my mind a bit, and also worked in about 15 of my paintings besides the one I did on camera. The first shot is of Rhea Feikin, who's pretty famous in the public TV world. Her introduction was amusing - an excerpt:
"Our first story is about an artist who likes to break the rules......and who particularly seems to enjoy shaking up an area of the art world that is not used to being shaken up...."

Nick, you are SO on a roll! I love the last shot--it looks like you're considering whether or not to pour your coffee on the painting.
Congratulations! I wish I could have seen the show.
P.S. Have I missed seeing the painting you were working on here?

Nicker! Congratulations. (I seem to be saying that to you on a daily basis now -- but I'll never tire of doing it, so keep on doing what yer doing!)
Like Kate, I want to see what the end result of that painting is you were working on, and... I notice you have a quite a few more tables in your studio since I visited. However, your paint supply looks about the same (dismal) , but at least you've upgraded from a cardboard box to a plastic container.
I love the shot of you (4th from the bottom) where it looks like you are describing how large ... um... well, let's just say that I've seen this animation before and I know that you are just telling her a tall tale, or possibly relaying a certain train trip through Belarus ;)
Keep on kicking butt Nick!
Deb
(edit: There is also a painting on the first page of your website I haven't seen before. Details??? pleaseP

No spilled coffee in that shot, that's a trick I like to start the demos with...need to patent that btw. Also that hairdryer as since given out, I'm now on approx. #20, the new one is a Conair 1600 for the equipment freaks out there.
The finished painting is on my site, scroll down to "October"

Don't tempt me to disprove the tall tale charge, Deb! :D And did I tell you my Belorussian train story??? That's not a place you want to be w/o visa, I had to sneak over the border to russia (and lived to tell about it).
thanks everyone! Nick
Had a look at October, that was the waterfront one Koi Joy, is that the same one.
Great to see such a large pour , one day I'll get enough courage to try one.
I've never used my acrylics that way , seems far more effective, you may be converting me :)

Oh......... I couldda had a V-8. I am sooooo upset.
I was in Havre de Grace in July. It a beautiful picturesque town.
My 12yr. old grandson was playing at the Cal Ripken World Series. (Our team won 3rd in the world, got beat out my Hawaii, whom we had previously beaten in pool play.)
We visited the lighthouse in Havre de Grace, but no gallaries were open that day. If I had know you were represented by RoCo (but that was before I knew about WetCanvas Site) , I would have made another trip downtown and skipped some ballgames.
Oh.... I couldda seen an original "Nick Simmons" up close. ( I don't see any icon for tears.:( :( :( )
Maybe one day.
Congratulations again, Nick.

Nick -- are you saying that the painting you are pouring above ended up being Windswept! No way! Getta outta town! :)
You didn't answer my question about the painting on your home page Aegis II. Is there a thread on that painting that I missed? It's a killer and I'd like to know more about it.
Deb
P.S. I orderd my roll of Fabrianio Artistico SP paper yesterday. ;) DickBlick has 10% of every item, so I felt I got it for a song :) I also broke down and bought some full sheets of Rough. I'm starting to like that texture.

Great pictures Nick!! I love the action shots! Nothing like seeing a master at work. :)
So my only question is...How did they figure you out as the bad boy of watercolor so quickly?? Is your reputation that well known?

Nick, great to see these picks of the master hard at work!!!
When you pour you make it count!!! Do you have your paint on tap!!
So great to see you getting the exposure you deserve!
Do you have a clip of the interview available it would be great to see it:clap:
Have a blast in Florida..wish I could be there for that event!!! Someday soon I hope!

Ditto ...I think I am becoming a " pour convert" too ...that is if my aging frame and small studio can cope with the size issue. A wonderful thread !

Nick, this is  , I love your pick with the hairdryer most. It is one of my essential tools as well. Would imagine they wouldn't do these kind of things in German TV unfortunately, the only "painting show" they do is "Bob Ross" at 1 a.m. (!), :( ,.....so museums is definetly your next step.

Rod, it's on the October update, I'll post it here. I think the pouring is good for some types of pictures, and I think the bigger you go the more you realize the benefits.

Wow Annette, so you've been there...it's one of those towns that is starting to be discovered by the boat money. I've driven by the Ripken stadium on 95, looks like a huge place. Congrats to the young ball player!
Mike, it seems like I'm on a roll because I don't make threads about all of the disappointments and failures! :o
Deb the Windswept painting is ancient. It is going to be appearing in a magazine soon, I'm glad it was still around so I could get a good photo. Forgot about the seascape, it's a variation of an old one, havent' posted it here. Great you're buying the roll, I think it's the way to go.
Stacy, no "master" here, I'm in the same boat as everybody else, out there flailing away hoping for the best. I saw myself referred to on a website once as "le enfant terrible de aquarelle" I thought that was kind of funny, something to aspire to!
Bridgett, how can I forget about myself? :p
Lori, she surprised me with that, but not my parents!
I like that Kate, reminds me of the old Green Hornet show....he was always running the checklist by Kato (Bruce Lee). I do have a few pieces in the museum in my hometown, which is accredited. As a matter of fact, I just got turned down by a major museum, that was a nice feeling. (see above, Mike) The donor is a bigshot, it didn't matter. :( I'll remember them for that someday!
Hey Marc, the feds have already cut funding for PBS, you trying to get them to pull the plug completely??? :p
Kake, got the pic tacked up on that back wall, thank you!
Sandy, you don't have to be big, you just have to think big! ;)
Billy, that hairdryer was a Vidal Sassoon - you know, "Sa-lon style, sa-lon conditioning". It's presently styling and conditioning at the city dump. I'm a Conair man now!
thanks all! Nick

Jeez, a girl can't even get sick around this place! I turn my back for two seconds and you're off conquering the world. Leave some of it for the rest of us, would ya?!
Of course you should know, now that I've seen the studio I'm going to have a tough time turning down that invitation. My spot is by the window, right? ;)
Keep it up Nick, you're makin' us proud!

Yay, Nick!
Missed the front end of this thread...was in Vegas on business. Obviously I am feeling quite a bit better than last time we talked! :)
I think Nick Simmons as the new Bob Ross would be hilarious...and a ratings grabber. Public TV viewers wouldn't know what hit them!
Wonder where we can start that campaign? Hmmm....
Carry on! :)

Well Nick you got the big brush, the big paper and in the Bob Ross tradition the the big hair :D ........... so now all you need is something soft and furry to stick in your pocket:lol: :wink2:
Well done Nick wish we could have seen it, maybe it would be worth getting hold of the studio and seeing if they could put it on YouTube, there is loads of archived TV snippets on there.

Beverlie, that's a big window, are you sure???? Hoping you're coming back to life! :)
Hey Shannon, so you're still above ground too! Las Vegas "on business"....uh huh,,,what'd you do, stop at Starbucks to do "research" and write it off? What's going on with that blog, can't be writer's block!
Arnold, that's a good one, and it gives me some ideas!
Kev, I think I only saw that guy once, I'm not sure I want to know any more about what he sticks in his pocket. Alsos not sure about putting my w/c demo on youtube, I have a 3 yr exclusive contract with Creative Catalyst and sure can't mess that up. Might put some guitar stuff on there though, I've had a lot of people suggest that. Too much going on, too much technology out there, too much info...how to keep up? A person could spend the rest of their life on that site, and that's just watching Dean Martin clips!
BTW, don't miss this one!!:
