Can anyone give some advice on what to stay clear of., or what is the best choice at the minute.
It will be used mainly for landscape shots and allowing me to take pictures for upload to this board.I realise I could get sorted quite cheaply, but I dont want to buy too cheaply and have to replace later, when I become obsessed with digital photography, which I know I will.
I intend to spend about £300 and dont want to have a DOH! moment.

I have been looking at various makes and models, but it is a jungle.
I have always used Canon SLRs and will probably be drawn that way again.
Whats hot? Whats not?

If you are used to SLR then anything else will probably be less than acceptable (they will have short comings)
Well known brands are best. Stay clear of the packages of camera, printers etc.
look on http://www.dpreview.com/ and check out the features of cameras.
This is a good starting point http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/compare.asp

Also (a rather obvious suggestion) look through the other threads in this forum. There has been quite a bit of discussion on "what camera to buy" lately.

The Canon Digital Rebel XT series may most likely meet your demands.

the prices have been dropping sharply in the last couple of months.
