Hi Babs.

Its a wonderful painting, I like the colors and the "everything" in it.

colors and subject are very attractive!beautiful!bravo!

all the colors and razzle dazzle is at the bottom. I think this would improve a dozen percent if the top were cropped or added to. It either needs more shape. Or elimination. I'd like to show you what I mean, but this isn't Open critique. But I'm thinking those zigzag shapes in lighter and darker yellow in the area over the heads would be mmmmmm good

Lisa & Clem:
Thanks so much, I'm glad you liked this.

Bev: I know you are right on about all that blank
space at the top. There is a little more color there than appears in the photo, but not much. I didn't know what to do with it, other than
cropping,,,,and hated to do that, as there are some nice textures
going on, and good color blends. Can't you please show me how you'd do it?
The zig zag shapes you mentioned? I'd love to see what you mean,
,,,,,,,or is it not allowed,,,,even with my permission?
Thank you!!

I'm agreeing with Bev. The top is very lovely, but not the same intensity (or style) as the images. I could see this backing off the black a bit (and the unfinished bottom edge, to integrate better with the feel of the background or going for those zigzags as extension. Really cool images though!

Colors are fantastic. I like the impact of the black!

Thanks Raven,,,I wish I could get better photos, as the darks (black)
are actually mixtures of the dark greens and dark blues, mixed on the canvas,,,and is much more effective in the real, as some of those colors show through.

:) this is really nice i love it. it looks vibrant and youthfull

02-01-2007, 06:24 PM

sure. sorry I just now read your request. This is just a rough idea

Bev, thanks so much for taking the time to do this
for me!!:) I really do appreciate it!!
And you're right,,,,the colors you put in added to the piece a lot.
I knew it was lacking, but just couldn't get a vision of what to do.
(and I was afraid of over working & ruining, which I have a large
habit of doing) Took it to the gallery anyway,,,in a beautiful frame,it hung quite a while, and lo & behold, it sold. Maybe the lady just liked the frame,,,
Thanks again Bev, for your time,,,,,,maybe next time I will better
understand what to do,,,,,your work inspires me & gives me courage
to explore, although you make it look so easy,,,,,and it aint!

I like the feeling of this painting. The colors are wonderful, however, I'm concerned that the background in your latest post takes away a bit from the focal point - mother and daughter. Well done!

Nice abstraction and realism at the same time.

How does that work then?

02-02-2007, 04:52 PM
And you're right,,,,the colors you put in added to the piece a lot.

I don't think so. I like the lucid expanse in the original painting. The added colours you seem to like look like spilt paint, and almost overpower the portraits.

I knew it was lacking, but just couldn't get a vision of what to do.

You need to have more confidence in your composition.

Wow, that really addresses that problem!
