A new scratchboard piece that I just finished. 12"x16" in size. I am not thrilled with how it turned out but can't put my finger on what is bothering me.

I like it! I love scratchboard. How long did it take you to complete it?

Thanks Angie-

I am glad you like it. I didn't keep real good track of time, and did a couple of Christmas pieces in the middle from when I started and finished it. I think between 20-30 hours. It is the largest piece (size wise) that I have done to date, but there is lots of black left, so didn't take as long as some pieces I have done.

I was wondering about where you were yesterday. I'm so glad you're back. I love the way this piece curves and moves and breathes (all your stuff is alive) but the adults eye bother me...it's almost closed. Could that be what's bothering you. It is a magnificant piece, just like it's artist.

I think this is so sweet. You have such a feel for animals.

The only suggestion I have is about the adult's ear on the left. It seems to me it could go a little darker as it leads into the inner part of the ear. This is only a minor thing and it does well as is, I only bring it up for future reference.

The fur is remarkable. And the animals have life (a very difficult thing to accomplish).

Thanks everyone. I was planning on entering it and a few other pieces in an art contest. I thought the deadline was Jan 15, but turns out it was Jan 10.... arg!!

Sorry you missed the deadline. Wow, you have a lot more patience than I do. Great work.

Technically, I think the work is amazing! The only thing that "bothers" me is that the look of the adult Dane's eyes seems cold and distant, especially in relation to the puppy.

Did you figure out what was bothering you about the piece?
