Pastels on colourfix, 40cm x 30cm (16" x 12").

The title is my little play on words as not only does he kind of look like "The Boss", but being a bull buffalo, he also has a "boss", which is the bit where the horns join on top of his head, not evident in the female.

Here's a quick WIP to the finished article.

This is the finished picture. I wanted to keep the oxpecker on its back. They are often there but not in the picture I took in Amboseli National Park in Kenya. However, I simply couln't get the oxpecker to look like it belonged there so out it went.

Here's a detail showing very little detail

Being pretty much a big bulky mass of flesh, I needed to keep the background fairly devoid of detail.

All C&C welcomed

VERY COOL! Is it finished yet? The reason i ask is that the front legs look pasted on and don't seem to belong. If you use the shadows to ground them it should be much more successful. Also what colour have you used in the shadows?

Thanks very much Terry, Holley and Jody. I must admit, for something so simple, he sure took long enough to paint

Fabulous work Patrick! I am not surprised that it was time consuming at that size.

"The Boss", I like that. He sure looks like he would dominate whatever conversation you shared. Nice job, very nice job.

He's terrific, Patrick! I wouldn't mess with him! Those Cape Buffalos are too scary! I like your bg, too, works well.
