A new project has been announced in the WetCanvas! project system!

Title: Phabulous Phalenopsises
Project Leader: orchidlover6
Relative Difficulty: Irrelevant
Type Restrictions: Any Type
Medium: Any Medium
Subject: Not Applicable
Days open for signups: Always
Maximum participants allowed: Unlimited

Description:

Being the orchid lover that I am I want to see what you can do to the plant I love most. I have provided several reference photos taken by our own Geckonia and MissMouse. Can we give them a big thank you?!? THANK YOU!!!! Now let's paint, sculpt, draw, multi medium, color pencil or what ever you can think of. The thread for this project will be in the Mixed Media Forum. Show me what you can do!

Additional Information:

For more information on the project: Click here! (http://www.wetcanvas.com//Community/Projects/browse_details.php?proj_id=175)

Remember, in order to help keep the discussions on projects organized, you should post your questions, suggestions, and comments on submitted work here in this thread. By doing this, we allow other non-project efforts to not get "pushed down" by a swarm of project-related threads.

Had a slight problem with posting the reference photos but all is corrected now. Be sure and let Geckonia and MissMouse what a wonderful job they did on the photos.

Thank you again ladies.

I had a little design flaw and will have to start over, but it's ok 'cause the next one will be better. Orchid, the reason I am doing this one in paper is so that it will survive the mail, I thought it would be another version of the postcard exchange and I want you to have it if you would like it. :)

Purrplhaze,

Your orchid is very well done. I see no messing up. Perhaps you may make the center a little darker and put in some detail to the "green nodule"( or whatever) in the center of the flower. Each one does pastels diferently. I like to keep it smooth and use my finger to smoothout the pastel layers. I use pastel pencils to show the details. The petals of your orchid are realistic and really good. I like smooth backgrounds. I am not a great artist and paint solely for my pleasure....I am not doing them with a market in view, and therefore, I am free to do them as I like.
Please see my website...

Hi Charles,

Thanks! I totally agree with you on the things you pointed out that I could have improved on. I've actually observed ALL these myself even while I was working on it but then I just couldn't figure out how to fix those problem areas. Certainly speaks of the very little experience I have with pastels! :o Oh well, I'll just have to move on to another pastel project some time. I dare not touch this orchid work again or I might REALLY mess up! Plus, the work is already signed, so. :D

Hey, nice website you have and what gorgeous works! I just visited it. One thing I would suggest though: perhaps make your images larger when clicked on, so that the viewer can get a closer look at them and appreciate all those nice details. :)
