TFB - You may know mechanical pencils as propelling pencil? You know the one with a fine lead in a plastic holder.

What a great painting! The dogs are wonderful - I love the one under the bench! I like this very much, classical yet very contemporary!

Yep definately one of my favs Mony. Very nice texture...Ermines can actually be biting little creatures can't they? Maybe they raised it as a pet. I think of fur coats.

Here is the story behind the Lady very interesting read!! http://www.wisdomportal.com/Stanford/LadyWithAnErmine.html

Wasn't this a poitrait of some king's mistress? Seams like I read about this somewhere.

yes, Cecilia Galleani, the girl in the portrait, was actually the Duke of Milan Ludovico Sforza's (also known as "Il Moro") mistress. The white Ermine was a noble symbol of her lover and , if I remember well, a game about her name Gallerani as in Greek the Ermine is called Gallee.

this portrait is perhaps one of my favourites too... hope you like my interpretation in b&w graphite.

I just found this thread and I think the art work on here is great. I'd like to post what I think are my best of 2006(I know I'm only suppose to post one...but I couldn't decide which I thought was the best. I'm not sure if these can be considered "classical" . If it's not classical enough, it's ok to remove my post. By the way...these were created using prismacolor pencils on strathmore 500 series bristol.
Thanks for looking and starting this thread,
Scott

Quite nice Mr. Martin! Did you use the layered technique over grisaille you have demonstrated from time to time? Very soft colour.

I only just found this thread. The work is so wonderful. Makes me desire to improve!!

Tyree, I love your study in pastels. Wonderful colours and lines.

Anita, a gorgeous drawing of a very handsome son

TFB, I too love the way the dogs are arranged around the picture. Is it a self portrait?

Rose, this is a lovely still life. I like the rich dark background very much.

Pixels, I love your sketch of the lady with long dark hair.

Mony, a marvellous study of Leonardo. Lady with ermine is one of my personal favourite works.

Gaensanger, a marvellous expressive painting.

WFMartin, beautiful work. Elegant really.

Chuck, I love your dramatic use of light and dark here.

WFCampbell, a wonderful study of Bougereau.

Scott, what beautiful pencil works. Amazing!!

Glad I caught up!!
