View Full Version : Dry Gouache

Too often my gouache dries in the half used tubes. Is it possible to save the dry paint or should I just throw it out? I have thought about just cutting the tube open and putting the paint in a small jar with distilled water. What is the best way to save it?

...putting the paint in a small jar with distilled water...
That should work okay. Don't use too much water, just soak the dried paint enough to soften it. I've resurrected some old tubes of W&N Designer's gouache by cutting them open. They were useable, but not as good as originally. I remember adding a drop of glycerin to help them flow better. You could also use honey.

Thanks David! It is W/N designer white gouache that has gone bad on me. I don't understand why that happens so quickly. This doesn't happen to my transparent watercolors that fast. Adding glycerin was an idea I had thought of too.
