ok you all, I am such a nubie at gouach, but grumbacher's opaque watercolor is gouache, right.

Can you tell me what the advantages/disadvantages are to using the cakes vs using the tubes?

I've bought these grumbacher paints http://www.acompshop.com/60441.html has anyone used them, are they pretty good. Affft, I am such a nubie, but I'll learn sooner or later!:smug:

I've not used that brand, but "opaque watercolor" = gouache.

As for dried tins, they're easy to carry around outdoors. There's not much paint, however, and you have to add water to use them. Gouache in tubes can be used with or without water.

oh, I thought of another question for ya. How long, on average, does a tube of gouache-say 10ml, last you?

That was just something that I was curious about.

Sorry, there's no accurate way to answer that question. It that depends on how often I use it, and I don't paint in gouache all the time.
