View Full Version : Phenomenal Week on Ebay!
04-03-2002, 06:19 PM
I have to share this with you all because you really encouraged me to try when I was so doubtful! But I just had a great week selling 7out of 7 prints, and 9 out of 10! One print that sold a few days ago had 4 bids and sold for 32.00! Is that amazing? To me it is amazing. I wish this showed up in color because it was really very visually pleasing to see a whole list of green under the bids column! Please be happy for me, I've had a rough couple of years, with very little hope, and this success offers some small hope and incentive to continue to try.

Of course I haven't gotten much painting done this week with all the tasks that go along with this project, but it was a good week anyway. Dare I hope...? Best, L.

Thank LoriLee and Carly. Yes, our postmaster has seen more of me these past 2 weeks than in the past 20 years! and has been most helpful, with supplies, and explaining how to use tracking and those kind of things. Thanks again, L.

Yippy Skippy, Laura! I know how you are feeling.... I felt the same way when I first started on ebay.... and guess what? I still feel that way about it! Wait til you get the feedback!
I had to laugh about your comment about the postmaster.... when I go to the postoffice there are several people helping customers, and I ALWAYS get the same guy to help me.... I don't know how that works out everytime, I stand in line waiting for the next available window and it never fails, I get him.... But that's ok, it's nice to have a postal friend!:D
Good luck in your next weeks auction.... and keep us.... posted!

Thanks, Cathy. Haven't gotten feedback from everyone yet, but so far it's all been good.
Your welcome, Shridhar, I was hoping it would be. Good Luck! L.

Congratulations! I've been trying to work up my courage to put my art out there, and posts like yours are very encouraging. In fact, I've decided and I'll be posting my first auctions this week. I don't expect to make a fortune, but I need to start getting my name out there and I need to keep painting a lot to get better, which means I NEED to get rid of these stacks of paintings to make space for more. :)
It concerns me a bit that when I go look out there I don't see anyone else's art that looks much like mine-- I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing. But I have found out just from posting my work here on wetcanvas that I'm a terrible predictor of what people will or won't like, so I finally decided that it's not worth worrying about. Besides, I find more and more that my own style and vision are almost not under my control-- like I work at getting better at what I do and how I do it, but I think that even if I were to try to choose to do something totally different, it would come out looking like mine. Does that make sense? Like, I couldn't change my handwriting much, or consistently, even if I wanted to. So, I just figure that I need to work on getting better at MY work.
Anyway, I'm going to be a real optimist and go open a checking account this morning for my art business. :D

I think you'll do wonderfully on eBay. I visted your web site and your work is both lovely and very accessible to the viewer. I think you have a unique way with color.

Music to my ears! Thanks, Cindy. :)

I too checked out your website - your work is lovely and should sell well whereever you show!! Your website is dynamite....did you design it yourself??
04-17-2002, 11:33 AM
Roni, Thank you! Yes, I design and maintain my web site myself-- it's quite simple, just images and text in an old version of Netscape Composer.

Thanks, roni, lisa, everyone. The past 2 weeks, however long it's been since I posted this, has been slower (not 100%!), but real steady. I'm trying "BuyNow" - don't know how that will work out yet. Really want to try putting some originals on, but just not comfortable w/that idea yet.
Lisa - great site and paintings. Let us know how eBay works for you. Re: other comments - I noticed many years ago when I was doing outdoor shows, that it was hard to predict which ones people would like or buy. I decided my job was to paint, not to judge my own work. Or compare mine to someone elses, instead to improve my own.

I couldn't have said that better myself Laura!

You folks are great. I get SO MUCH out of Wetcanvas-- excellent criticism of my work that helps me to improve, great technical advice on all aspects of art, and emotional support and encouragement. I have to say that since I found this site, my rate of artistic development has increased enormously.

laura...it's kinda slow all over, i think! someone told me they thought it had to do with the dreaded April 15 tax fest!! Between people needing to get their taxes done & people finding out they need to pay the IRS more, that could have an effect
04-19-2002, 10:03 AM
Yeah, 4Kids, that could be it - I found out some of those same things myself! Let's hope it picks up again soon. L.

Okay, had to get that out first. :)
I've had an awful month, month and a half on ebay. Sold nothing. It was only this week that I remembered it's tax time on that side of the pond! (I have until June to file since I live overseas). Today I **finally** got one bid. Whew! This Sunday I'm going to start a big selling campaign (going to list 10 items).
And in case no one knows, there a special sort of art selling night tomorrow (Sunday the 21st) on the "Park" forum at eBay. I've never done it before but it sounds like everyone can post one message about two pieces of art for sale - sort of a show and tell? Sounds fun.

Tina - thanks for the heads up on ebay tonight. If my pooch is doing better [she jumped from the balcony, after a cat I think, 5 stories to the garden and is in pretty bad shape] I'll try to check it out!
I would really like to learn more about selling thru eBay. Wonder how expensive it is to ship art to US from overseas?
