Too much time on my hands, I guess. This is about a 4"x6" on 140 lb CP W/C paper. It was inspired by a reference photo in the WDE a couple weeks back.

I covered most of the paper with titanium white, diluted to about the consistency of light cream. Then I quickly brushed a little Hansa yellow med. here and there into the white. I finished the sky by brushing in ultramarine blue toward the top and quin. red toward the horizon, all the while working wet into wet.

When the sky was dry, I painted the silhouette with a mixture of quin. red and pthalo green bs. (BTW, these two colors are excellent mixing complements. They make a very satisfying black.)

Total time: about 45 min., mostly waiting for the sky to dry completely.

Awesome Richard!

And I actually understood what you meant in your techniques. I visited the library and checked out several books about water color painting and read though a lot of it tonight. I am self-taught so you guys were speaking Greek to me. Till tonight that is.

Thanks for sharing this with us.
