View Full Version : Casein and Milk paint

I have been looking at many companies for quite some time that sell milk/casein paint. One is Real Milk Paint and the other is Milk Paint. They both sell premixed colors in powder form that you make to either do wall finishes or furniture painting.

I have also seen Shiva makes a casein paint or at least some uncolored liquid I have. I have also purchased casein powder form both Sinopia and Artsuf.com in SF.

SO here is my question: are they all the same?

I want to be able to make small detailed paintings on furniture with them. Which is best for what I want to do. What is the difference if any?

Sort of. The paints are all based on milk protein as the binder, but have different processing and additives. Shiva makes their product to have a longer shelf life, and is sold in small amounts for art works. If you were painting a whole chair or bookcase, "milk paint" would be far more economical, but for small areas it will do fine.
