A new project has been announced in the WetCanvas! project system!

Title: Wingnut's 24-hour FND
Project Leader: Wingnut
Relative Difficulty: Irrelevant
Type Restrictions: Any Type
Medium: Any Medium
Subject: Not Applicable
Days open for signups: 7
Maximum participants allowed: Unlimited

Description:

Welcome to my 24-hour FND!

This weeks event is an opportunity to create, explore, and have fun! Im sharing some of my favorite photos from my own collection (plus one of an adorable baby squirrel, compliments of Miss Mouse thank you MM!) in hopes of sparking your muse into trying something new. The final image is NOT important here, what IS important is the journey from inspiration to destination, and the joys of creation. Ive given you 24-hours to relax and have fun, and it is my hope that you will use this time to explore your talents and try something new be it a new medium, new technique, or to simply a chance to cut loose and play around! I also hope you will take the time to share with us your expeditions by adding your progress images to the project, and telling us of your discoveries in the discussion chit-chat thread Ive started in the draw/sketch forum just for this event. You can find that thread here:

<a href= "http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=37942">http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=37942</a>

After the event ends (8pm EST Saturday March 30th) I hope you will join me in the chat room! Until then, have fun and go play!

Additional Information:

For more information on the project: Click here! (http://www.wetcanvas.com//Community/Projects/browse_details.php?proj_id=167)

Remember, in order to help keep the discussions on projects organized, you should post your questions, suggestions, and comments on submitted work here in this thread. By doing this, we allow other non-project efforts to not get "pushed down" by a swarm of project-related threads.

The last image is so dark that i can't make it out. Any possibility of making it lighter.

*g* Did this one while sitting around at the computer tonight trying to keep sane and awake at the same time. uggggh. Anyways, I absolutely *loved* this photograph. I love those pink and blues and yellows in the picture I just had to do it *g* It's not often I draw un-animal things anwyays so it was good for once.
Mixed media. Black ink, crayola markers and water, with photoshop for some of the blending.

Ok, I think she's finished. Colored pencils on black, around 3 hours. But jeez Louise,I forgot how difficult it is to get a good scan with black paper. It's much brighter and more colorful in RL.
Oh, and wingnut, here's the photo.

Still, when I try to click on the big pic URL for my progress image, I get a window that says "Error, page cannot be found."

When I go to it the long way, via the projects page, it comes up, but it still has my old tinyhead on it. I don't understand.

I clicked on "report this post to a moderator" but then read that it was only to be used for rude, etc. posts.

What should I do?

Maybe I'll just go to bed. 'Night all.

Had problems connecting to WC last night and this am, finally came back online 8am here, so uploaded while I could .
Doing the stable, Hate the painting at the moment, also started to sketch the squirrel, which I'll carry on with at leisure, it is hard, "specially when you've never seen one!!!!
But I would like to do it pen & ink.

That's what I found out with the *last* drawing event drawing I did. Finally, I gave up on the bark and it wound up looking fuzzy, one person said...Good luck anyhow. Yours is already better than mine turned out.

HEY, WE'RE UP AND RUNNING AGAIN! WHOOPEE! (I almost went into withdrawal! ;) )

Had a heck of a time with the bark. Have done about all I'm going to on it for the moment. Must tweak our Tree Squirrel a bit, as his image has suffered due to neglect on my part while obsessing on the tree. A little TLC is needed. Then, a tweak or two to the bark and it's history. Whew!

Any bark suggestions? Or any suggestions? All comments happily received. :D

P.S. Getting "Page Error - Page does not exist" again when I click. The page is there. I hope it's worth the trip the long way round. :D

Very nice, Wing! You are so disciplined! All the progress pics were wonderful, giving us a great look over your shoulder as you created this. You've got some nice clear but soft, textured effects going on here. Fine handling of the watercolor pencils. Great job!

Caron, Thanks for the kind words:) I felt a LITTLE better about it this morning... I know it needs more contrast, I find I was foretting how to make colours...I got real tired I think:D
I will work on it...

Spend pretty well all afternoon doing my 2 entries and still have to finish the tree/sunset one (which I was really getting into but had to go out). Was able to slip home to upload the 2 but not finished the tree one yet so will hopefully finish it tomorrow and post it ... I'm doing it all in watercolor pencils (first time I've ever tried it) and am hoping it turns out as good as it's starting to look. Am hoping to get home again in time to view everyone else's work. Thanks Wingnut for hosting this ... liked the 24 hour thing (glad I got the photos of what I wanted to do last night as w-c was down when tried to get them earlier so had lots of time to work on them)

AriadneArts, this is outstanding!
I uploaded my drawing at 1 a.m. last night...woke up with the flu and couldn't even when I could drag myself out of bed the WC site seemed to be "down". I'm way behind at looking and commenting.
So while I'm here, drugged to the eyeballs, I want to say all at once that I enjoyed all your work. Those trees- all so different and so moody. The horses- too chicken to even try them! The stables and statues, the costumed man-all well done, the cute kittens, oh and the Lady's Slipper-just lovely.
Thank you for your comments on my cat...can you tell she's not terribly bright? All fluff, no brains,LOL.
Thanks, Wingnut, for hosting!

Black Tiger, Caron, Wingnut and Gnu--thanks to all of you for taking the time to comment. I'm soooo tired, now, I won't get to look at everyone's tonight. But I'll be at it again tomorrow. (Hope the site is up [bite your tongue, Eileen :D ])

This was a great idea, Wingnut. A little variety in format is good for the soul. Maybe we should do these 24hr ones every so often as a break from the adrenaline-charged weekly ones. Every other month? Something like that? Just a thought......:p

OK I finally got online and uploaded my pic. Renfaire Dude with black ink and brush (I like a good man with a beard!). Even with the 24hours time limit I still wasn't able to spend more than an hour on it. Hope somebody's still in chat.

That is just LOVELY, Kitaye! You really get some beautiful effects with those gel pens. Very nice on the black paper. And I like how you "de-symetricalized" (I make up my own words LOL) the horizon line. Good work!

Didn't get a chance to check in earlier and see what everyone had done...the site was down this morning when I tried.....and now I only have a few minutes (anxious teenager waiting to chat with friends is breathing down my neck)....so,

great work everyone! I can't stop to comment on each one...but I really enjoyed looking at them all!

Thanks again Wingnut!

Thanks everyone for playing!

What has been posted is amazing work, and I suspect there is more great stuff to come from those that haven't had time to post it yet! You still have 7 days from the start of the project to post - so get on it!

:D

A few things about the photos before I go off for a nice loooonnng sleep:

The Sunset - taken at the Grand Canyon in 1986

The Barn - taken at a renfair in 2000 (did you find the chicken in the hayloft?) ;)

The Horse - my mare Brandy, a blm mustang from the adopt-a-horse program

The Hat - my husband's, and a little trick because that's not a steer skull (it a horse's sitting on a set of horns)

The Sculpture - The Crazy Horse memorial in Custer, SD (see it being carved in the cliff behind the sculpture?)

The Daisies - a digital camera whim of mine.

The Renfair Dude - taken at a renfair in (aprox) 1984?

The Baby Squirrel - compliments of Miss Mouse (thanks again ;) )

Tabby - future barn cat - from a stable I worked at (she was about 6 weeks old - and no, she didn't jump!)

Thanks again for playing everyone! I hope you had fun! :p

Renaissance Fair. The entire fair is set up like a medieval town. Blacksmiths, weavers, pork pies, mead, Comedia del Arte, etc. Do you have them in New Zealand?

A Renaissance Faire :) , its like a state fair or a festival except everyone dresses up in medieval and Renaissance clothes. You can drink mead, see a joust (Medieval tournament with knights on horseback), and see medieval crafts being practiced plus lots more.

The picture I did shows a man practicing the medieval art of bootmaking.

Thanks koko and gnu for looking and commenting on Renfaire Dude.

He was fun to work on but a little nerve wracking. You can't make a mistake in brush and ink. But it keeps me going forward rather than looking back! :)

Thanks for putting this together, Wingnut. You gave us a variety of images to work with; something for everyone. If we hadn't had the site outage on Saturday, I would have had time for a lot more. I normally like the pressure of the 2 hour drawing events because its cures me of the tendancy to fiddle-far t around too long with stuff but the 24 hour event is good for a change of pace every once in a while.

Everybody did such a good job! but drat's I don't have time to comment now (big Easter brunch). Maybe later. That's the only thing I don't like about the new project system. :(

Really nicely done, the picture and the event!
I love this, and I'm not really big on that era, but it is very interesting the way you did it. I wonder if you use the watercolor pencil because of wax bloom, maybe? Hi-Dee!
I have never tried gel-pens before, I like the brightness you get from it though, I 'magine you lose some of the iridescence after scanning, I would think that like you said, it would be much brighter in REAL LIFE... Nice colors choices, and nicely done too!

Nice drawing/painting... I can 'see' him in his eyes, looks very realistic, almost spooky, but how can a little-bitty squirrel kill me? Oh well, I do like what you did, and I hope that you post the rest? Later? It looks finished to me, but you did say... Has a very soft look, in a nutty kind of way.

Hi gnu,

I think it's not bad at all, I think that if you go in and do some stuff to it to make you feel better, maybe you'll like it fine. I really like the realistic look of your sky, and it certainly has a soft, down home quality to it. So, with that, how can it be that bad to you?:p Let's see it after you make it the way you think it should be, I'd be curious as to what you'd do with it to do that. Acrylic is so hard for me anyway, to hard to blend!:D (Buildings are too hard for me, you won't see me tackle 'em)

I believe that you accidentally took out the part at the top that is supposed to stay in, don't delete anything, just type in what you want, then you should be safe, I think. :p

Hey Wingnut,

You did really well on this one, I can almost reach in to touch it, I mean, really. I like this alot, and I don't normally like flowers. I do think that the scribbly lines in the BG kind'a don't fit in as well, if you can see what I mean, I mean, it almost looks like an old faded photograph, so the lines detract from it, to me anyway. I also think that cropping it a little on the bottom might help if you're planning on framing it, just a thought, I don't fancy myself a know-it-all! :D I hope you don't mind me saying.
you just kind'a jumped in here and did good, huh? :p

Sundiver:
Hi Everybody, Thanks for the stuff you've said about my tigger. I appreciate all, good or bad. I really had a pretty good time doing this, (Thanks Wing!) and I thought that everybody did a pretty bang-up job of doing their thing, and that's pretty groovy. I personally need to be pushed, or coaxed into doing stuff, or like on the first few FND's we had, the one hour ones DROVE me to do stuff, fast too. I really appreciate the time when it's limited, I like the 24 hours deal too, I'm just more partial to doing it from the end of a whip, I reckon, am I weird?...:p Anyway, I had a minute, and just wanted to say that I always enjoy looking (am I weird) at others stuff.
Sundiver, Thanks! Kitaye, Thank you for the info on the gel pens. Maggie, Thanks for the good words, and thanks for taking the time helping me on the watercoloring techniques/tips! Eileen:Thank you alot, Orchid, thank you , and also thank you for the info, I didn't know at THAT time I could still play...:p, DanaT: Thanks Dana, it took me about 5 1/2 hours, approximately, which is nothing compared to the people in the CP forum that spend 100 hours on a drawing/painting...whew! I don't habve that in me, never will...
Digi: Thanks Digi, I do appreciate your groovy words all of the time!:p
Thanks, see y'all next time too, I hope.

Hey, Nice 'tigre', it reminds me of Osama. :D
I kid you also, no?... with Australian-type humour, oui?

Nice work though, Really. Makes me either want to try harder with coloured pencil or give up, I haven't decided yet.
