Ive heard that hardboard is not ideal (archival) from some sources and IS ok by others.
I'm also wondering if its because there are different types of hardboard?

terminiology varies from place to place but what should I ask or look for and is hardboard a viable painting surface for a proper painting or not?

Also
I've used house emulsion paint before for a primer layer and liked the feel of the satin sheen and wonder if a gesso is available with the same sheen?
as so far the gessoes ive used are quite absorbent it seems and i dislike the texture.

Bless you, Studemobile. I too have been confused. I just printed the Ampersand article. Good info. :)
