View Full Version : Ideas for using up B&W pastels?

I tend to buy small sets of pastels. And since most manufacturers include a black or a white or both in most sets, I've got lots of black and lots of white pastels. And the two colors I NEVER use are, of course, black and white!
So I'd like to find a way to use them up. And maybe this is also a good time for me to overcome my fear of colored grounds, and leaving large areas of the paper exposed.
Anyone have any examples of work that might give me some ideas/inspire me?

you could do some sketching with the bl. and white as is. that's where your colored grounds can be fun, using that ground color as your basic color in the sketch, the bl and wh. as dark and highlight.
or you could take some of the other colors you dont' use much of (for me, that's bright yellows, reds, blues, the really super intense ones) and grind up some black or white with that extra stick and make new sticks that you might use more of.

I have saved my whites to crush and reform(with water) with a little yellow
to get an off white when dry
and black with red or blue for a dark
