Thanks, Deb, for the beautiful and inspiring pictures!

Still on my learning excursion into coloured pencils, I chose those flaming flowers with the bench. It's a small picture, 6.5x6.5", so I managed it in about 3 hours (I add a shot at the 2 hours mark).
My main focus were the flowers and the fact that part of them is in the sunlight and part of them in shadow. So I did not focus on detail or botanical correctness.
I'm glad about all kinds of comments and critique!

Both pictures are digitally enhanced to show the colours more strongly.
This is the finished piece:

This was the state after 2 hours:

What a really interesting version this is!
I love the way you've organised all the trees and banks of bushes - and the crop - superb bringing those flowers to the fore!

I don't remember seeing this ref, but seeing your colorful flowers makes me want to try it too. Nicely done Marie!

Lovely work on this and love what you've done to the flowers - changing them and making them the focal point.

Hi Marie,

I love how you did this - it makes me want to go sit on that seat and relax! What a great crop, too. Your background looks so soft and inviting.

OOOooo....I LIKE iT!!!!!   I really like how the bench kind of bends into the scene and your pencil strokes in the background give a real feeling of movement....and the foreground flowers have movement to them as well. Very fun and easy to look at....great job with those coloured pencils!!!

Very nice Marie..The bench looks like haven surrounded by trees and bushes. A wonderful contemplative place..with beautiful colorful flowers in the foreground. Well done!!!

Thanks for all the friendly words! I am especially flattered that you like the background, because I worked hard at it. It still looks rather amorphous, I think, apart from the fact that not a single sunray can seem to get through this thicket... I have been using some ideas I got from reading Bet Borgesons "CP for the serious beginner", but am still far from managing a composition the way I'd like to.

Meanwhile, I have reworked the path so it appears darker and more in the shadow to make the sunlit parts stand out more.
I'm not contented with everything, but I'll call it definitely finished now - the paper won't take more.

The transition of shade to sunlight appealed to me as well. The focus on the flowers was a very good idea. This makes mine feel very overworked.
