Been a while since I posted in this forum. Thought I would show my new surroundings - Saudi Arabia. These are from the old city of Dia'Riyah.

Anita, I've moved your thread over to the Shutterbug Pub which is the forum for sharing our travel shots and threads that are image heavy. The darkroom is more for critique and our serious photographic work.
Thank you though for sharing a glimpse of a fascinating looking part of the world; I love the cut out decoration of the buildings, the soft colours and the textures. Have you moved there permanently?

Wow, life size sand castles!
Is the cut-out structure a part of an old city wall?
Interesting details.
Thanks for sharing

Wow Anita a nice collection of images from your area.
What are those walls constructedof?
Love the window in #3, the contrasts in #4, and composition in #8 ... oh heck I like em all!

Wow! Awesome architectural digest this! I love the look of them all so exotic! I'm such a armchair traveler and actually I wouldn't feel all that safe in that part of the world right now so God bless & be safe.

Ditto everyone above. Also what kept going through my mind (whats left of it) is "Somebody needs to show those folks how to use a plumb and level."
Sure makes good pictures though.

Carol - ah I see. Can travel shots not be considered serious photography? Just wondering! Absolutely not to moving here permanently - there has to be a light at the end of this desolate tunnel! :D
Thank you Damar.
Windy - the walls are a form of adobe - some sort of dirt that must bind and straw.
SunnyJon - you are certainly aware of the situation here and on your guard when out in public, trying not to draw attention to yourself.
Windbreaker and Deb - thank you!

Anita travel photography is very serious photography indeed, but the darkroom threads we try to keep the numbers of images lower (except for the cometitions, projects and the Photo of the Day threads), this means that people can study them more and make comment and critique. We tend to put the travel and sharing photos in the Shutterbug Pub where far more images are placed for sheer enjoyment.
Where will you go if you do not want to stay there?
Thank you for the adobe information :)

Windy - we are here for my husband's job - moving here from Mexico City. Serious change - from the multi-coloured to monochrome. Next? Who knows, wherever they send us.

Anita -
Very interesting shots - very stark images - matches the environment well. Is this an occupied city or is this a "ruin" or museum-like place?
OK, not to go scatological on you all, but did no one else think that the name of this place was a joke?

Absolutely!!! :D
I think it must have been inhabited recently as there is electricity but many of the buildings are little more than piles of rubble. Not sure why some are so much better kept.

I thought the name was a joke, also, but I'm glad I checked it out. I was going to ask which desert you were in when your locations said "in the desert".
Wow, Saudi Arabia. What a tough place to live, especially if you're a woman.
