Very nice! I look forward to seeing your completion of this one.

It looks like you had a little trouble with posting the photo, so I've asked our Moderators to remove the other two threads. They like to keep things tidy around here! :wink2:

great attitude - very natural, not stiff or contrived at all. I already like it - finished will be fabulous.

Beautiful Cathleen, and can't wait to see the finish, but, like Mary, love it the way it is, so don't make her too "perfect":D

I loved this when it was a WIP, and it is such and appealing composition. Bravo! You really did a great job on the folds of the skirt too, seems like a small thing but it really is all in the details. I lack patience too so I understand your pride in this piece.

It's beautiful Cathleen, so much detail in it. She looks a bit disgusted with having to wear the dress though :D

Cathleen, why not post your INCREDIBLE finished painting here so that in three years when somebody comes to this thread they can ALSO see the finished painting!? I get so frustrated when I'm looking for something to inspire me and I come upon an older thread that's so interesting...but I never see the way it worked out. (You see how often people bring up older work--we have a thread started in 2004 on the front page right now!)

Just a thought... :D

Nori, thanks and that is why I am so proud of this considering my lack of patience with detail- I hung in there!
Steph, I laugh at your comment about her expression : )
Tres- Thank you for your ongoing encouragement. Your opinion means so much.
Violet, Yes it is velvet!!! Thanks.
I am working on putting together a group of 4 paintings to submit to the NH art Assoc.- It is juried and difficult to get into. All 4 need to be similar in subject matter and consistent in style. This will be #1

Wow, I would never in 100 years have the patience for that sort of thing. What a wonderful job you did on the dress, and lovely comp as well.

Cathleen,

For one who doesn't like detail, you nailed it. I thought at first it was a photo and was looking for the painting. It's perfect. I would never have the patience.
Congratulations. It is beautiful, as is the girl.

I love her, she is beautiful.... I am drawn into wondering what she is thinking as she holds her skirt in her hands... Her facial expression is one of deep thought and leaves me pondering ...

Cath: I don't think you need worry about getting juried in - this is just a wonderful portrait. The lighting, the color, the pose, the level of detail - just everything about it is great!

Excellent work, no wonder you're proud. I'm looking forward to the other three. How long do you have to complete them?

Cathleen this is stunning. I find I want to know who the little girl is ? What national dress it is? Why does she touch the dress in such a fashion? who is she? Who does she belong to? Does she know how beaurifull she is? It is a real story painting. Well done Cathleen this painting has the real wow factor. The every detail is excellent.

Cathleen, I merged both of your threads together, so the WIP will make a natural progression into the finished piece.
It turned out beautifully!

Thank you all for your wonderful comments. I have until March to complete the series. I may do a little girl who is an equestrian and then I do not know. I think I will keep it to a series of costume type paintings. I will send you updates.

Oh that is why the first page seemed strange to me, I was wondering what happened to my comment

I just had to have another look at it Cathleen, the velvet's sheen is wonderful, could we see a close up of it please?
