This is a scratchboard drawing of an eastern kingbird sitting on a mullein stalk. I took some photos of these birds last summer and this is the result. After I did it I realized the composition would be better if the bird's head were turned toward the viewer. That said, I would appreciate any comments or criticisms. I have found these in the past to be most helpful.http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/28-Sep-2006/83835-Eastern_Kingbird.jpg

Dave:
He has a very regal look and I don't mind at all that his head isn't turned. Also like how his feathers go in the right direction. That's something I yet have to master! Fine work! No real crits that I see!

Very characteristic! I got some photos of kingbirds this summer - when they weren't flitting about like mad trying to catch whatever insect passed them, they were, just like you have pictured, staring out onto the prairie.

The only comment I have is about the amount of board on the right-hand side of the picture plane. I know - oh, how very well do I know :-) that it's too late to change now - to my eye one of the characteristic features of the kingbird is the white tip on it's tail and I'd like to see a bit more space given around this feature so it's not lost on the edge.

I have to agree with Tania, but otherwise this is lovely. Very nice work, no "outline", yet you can see the bird.
