I'm back trying to finish this and need your thoughts. I like the soft coloration (which looks much better than the photo shows) but can't decide if the grass works even though it was that new spring grass color. Would it work better if I toned it down a notch?
Any other thought's would be appreciated.

Because of all the grays and blues, I like the green/yellow grass. Gives it a nice sunny day feel.
Very nice Painting. Looks like a watercolor

I like it just the way it is. It is a great painting!

I think the grass color works wonderfully. It warms up the painting, and provides great contrast.

I like the grass as it is, because it adds a nice contrast to the rest of the piece. This has a very nice feeling to it & I think you've done a great job!

Gayle, I think the colours and tones work very well in this painting - lovely light feeling to it.
My single crit would be the large, rather empty space on the right - if it's not on stretched canvas, I'd be tempted to crop it!
(Just MHO mind you! :D)

the old dude came out GREAT, I like the whole painting but cant help but wonder how it would look if the grass was brown and dry. I know that wasn't the question but it was my first thought.. for what its worth..

It's a lovely painting Gayle but personally I would tone the grass down a bit.....I know I'm in the minority here.

Grass is good. Don't change anything. I think it makes the painting cheerful.

Thanks for all your input! Maureen, I see what you are saying - I think that can be cropped when framed. Dreamz - I may have to do him again and put him in dry grass but I think sitting in the soft stuff is much more comfortable! This is a commision so I wanted to be sure the grass was not a distraction. I guess the overall opinion is that it works so I will leave well enough alone!
Than you all very much!

Yes - the grass makes the painting.... so no need there to change it.... warm and relaxing work.... "Meditations" .......
