Thank you for your reply Ruth. Love your work! So real....how long have you been in the business?

Thanks Borum! I started doing community-theater sets about 15 years ago, and branched out to murals full time about 8 years ago. I've been painting off and on all my life.

Ruth,

Thank you for the reply. I've just started and trying to break into the business here in Augusta, Georgia. Haven't really done much advertizing, but will this year. Have a job this week end to paint a child's room with pictures of spider-man. I guess a little at a time. Any advise for someone just getting started?

Thank you....

 Don't give up your day job! I did that, and there were times when I wondered if I was going to be able to make it. I lived on soup that I kept adding water to, to make it last a little longer. If you're not comfortable living on the edge like that, give yourself time to build your business before going full time.

Even now, I have months with no money coming in. For a while this winter, I really thought it was over and I'd have to go back to typing. I stuck it out, begged and borrowed and bartered, and now I'm busier than ever, but I'm still just trying to get out of the debt hole I've dug myself into.

More in the saga later.

It just takes time. The more you do, the more people will see it and you will become known. I have done some freebies in model homes just to get my work out there. It's starting to pay off. People see my work in the models, pick up my card, and call me when they build their houses. I also did a freebie in the local college, and have already picked up a big high-visibility job from that. It's also nice to be able to send people to see work you've done in public places. If you belong to a church, maybe you could donate a mural in the nursery or children's room.
