View Full Version : WDE 8/9 guess what?

I fooled you all! It's not a cow;)
Not too happy with it because of the composition. It's acrylics on canvas, 24x24", took almost 2 hours. C&C welcome.

Gotta run, will look at your work later!:)

09-09-2006, 11:11 AM
It's camouflaging the cow right?
Love your color mixture in the background, and your flowers shine:-)))

09-09-2006, 11:38 AM
Of course I love the colors!!! And it could be a camoflagued cow!!:D
but seriously, the composition bothers me to. You have this vertical line, your eye flows from one flower to the other straight down. Can you bring in another flower to the right, just barely touching the others to improve the composition a bit??? Do you have some tracing paper, or a program on the computer to try playing around with the composition?? I think you could save it!

09-09-2006, 11:42 AM
Love the color. Agree that the composition needs a little help but not much... slight adjustments on the position of the flowers will change the vertical.

09-09-2006, 02:03 PM
I love your colours as usual Connie, and I must admit to looking for a cow among the flowers at first

Elaine sugested using a programme to find a way to solve it, and as I still have my prog open.. Hope you don't mind my sugestion?

09-09-2006, 03:12 PM
LOL...and here I put the calf in just for you!!:D

Love the colorful flowers Connie...I agree with the others on the comp but I know you'll work it out.

09-09-2006, 03:18 PM
Wow, Steph! How did you do that? You can fix my painting anytime for me. Are you sure there are no cows in there? I am still looking!

09-09-2006, 04:33 PM
Thanks girls!
I followed your suggestion, Steph, because I wasn't happy with the composition myself. I took another flower from the reference and placed it where you suggested. It will never become my favourite painting, but at least I can live with it. If nothing else at least it is cheerful.:wink2:

I love the colours and the enhanced composition - in fact it is very cheerful and I'm sure someone will want to have that in her/his house.

09-09-2006, 05:49 PM
Wow! This looks great!

09-09-2006, 06:03 PM
Connie, If I squint really hard I can see a cow head sniffing the bottom flower! lol Really I can! Great colors!!

09-09-2006, 06:26 PM
Connie, you have achieved your goal, these flower ooze happiness and the addition of that extra flower sealed it very nicely, that's what I love about wetcanvas, always more minds to give you a fresh perspective, I agree with nogenius this will make a lovely addition to someone's home or office if you're not 100% happy with it. Its a keeper!!!

09-09-2006, 07:23 PM
I like it Connie, it is lively

09-10-2006, 01:10 PM
You're right, I was expecting that calf as well. But I love flowers and you make them to bright and cheerful. I am so poor at composition but now understand that the second version is better indeed.

09-10-2006, 01:48 PM
Thank you Connie, I feel very honoured that you liked my humble sugestion. I can't say I love it now though

Orange, I used the lassoo tool in Photoshop to select around the main flower, copied and pasted it, and then manipulated it to change it's shape. I've been using Photshop for 7 years, and Paintshop for longer, so all the things I do in it are almost second nature to me now .

09-10-2006, 02:15 PM
I was expecting the calf too!!!

Love the feeling of light and shade in this one. Crisp colours.

09-10-2006, 03:54 PM
you painted over my favorite part, that little bud!!! the only thing i didnt care for is still there... that long vertical white/blue petal dead center that conncts two flowers.... a simple break there i thought would have done it...... i DO LOVE your b/g colors/style tho!! and your whites are always so WHITE against the other colors........ i do admire that; that's why YOU're the PRO!!! Kor

Thanks, Steph for your information. It seems like useful software for artists.

09-10-2006, 10:07 PM
Its wonderful to see so many supportive talented folks working together here! Steph, you usually make very astute observations and Connie -- to see an artist of your caliber still willing to take suggestion is a wonderful thing. Viva WC!

Beautiful Connie, I admired the way you choose colours ....what colour goes where and the way you paint .

09-11-2006, 07:44 AM
Connie, If I squint really hard I can see a cow head sniffing the bottom flower! lol Really I can! Great colors!!
Me too! WE found one Connie...do we get prize? Nice picture...like the update best...with the red cow, sniffing the top our left flower!!:p

09-11-2006, 11:07 AM
Thank you all so much for looking and commenting and thinking with me!

Anything for you Kordelia...I painted another bud and separated the two flowers. On top of that I went a little wild and drew some white and purple lines around the flowers and splattered paint all over it. (LOVE doing that!)
It's called summer and summer it is! I kinda like it now...sometimes.

09-11-2006, 11:23 AM

09-12-2006, 10:40 AM
I really like what you did here. I liked it before, but really like it now. It feels like one that you could hang on the wall and see different things in every time you look at it.

09-13-2006, 10:18 PM
your work always is so crisp and exciting....tyree:heart: :smug:

09-13-2006, 11:21 PM
Better and Better - I also was expecting a cow :) and saw one!
The white spots are lightening the work.
You will find a buyer for the last version.

09-14-2006, 06:48 AM
I think it looks very nice. I do like the revised version. Great job! Very cheery.

09-15-2006, 06:47 AM
Connie, I love the colors, and the change of adding the flower gave you an "s" composition, which works very well, now you just dance up the flowers, and back around, so, it may not be your favorite, but is is a great painting!! I really like it!!

Well, I like it Connie!

You know I like flowers - but this is vibrant - and even more vibrant - full of life and sun .......... and I'm sorry to be so late, but saw hardly any of last week's entries!

09-21-2006, 06:12 AM
And I'm even later, but I just saw the latest version and have to say I love it too, those last additions really made it sing.

09-21-2006, 09:50 PM
I missed this, and now I see what a lucky gal is Nonny's DD!
