View Full Version : An Award

Not sure this is where I should post this... and it may be a little premature, but (gotta share my excitement with someone) I received a call yesterday afternoon that I had won an award for 1 of 2 painting's I entered in a Juried Art Show. Mind you this is a small local show. They wouldn't say what painting, or what award ... the awards will be given Friday.
Right now I'm just thrilled to be recognized...... small sponsor's award, or first place.... I'm excited.

Thanks for the reply's.
Not sure of the quality of these photo's. One I scanned, and the other I photo'd with the digital. (I have taken picture of both with the 35 mm, but will wait to develope them)
The first is one titled "Sailing to Weather", and I painted it for the "3 colors's only Project" a while ago. Everyone liked it, so entered it. Unframed it is 8.5" x 11" watercolor .
The other is called "Ketchikan" and I had taken the referance photo when in Alaska on a cruise. I had painted one and it sold with-in 24 hours...it was 12" x 18" when unframed. My husband really love it, and altho it was his decision to sell it, I thought I'd paint him another. This one is 22" x 30".

AND THE WINNER IS..........
The painting that won the AWARDS is "Ketchikan". Yes I said awards....... plural. I was so surprise when I arrived at the
reception last night, and a fellow artists told me that it had won 2 awards....... my head is so big I could hardly fit into the house last night....... LOL.
There were some beautiful, beautiful paintings there, and I honestly felt undeserving.
I won HONORABLE MENTION, (money), and a sponsor's award, (gift certificate). I was thrilled. Now back to the real world and those Postcards for the Postcards... Project 2, lol.
Thanks for all the kind words. The support from my peer's is wonderful. Thanks. :)

Wow! Well, I can certainly see why you got two awards, Nancy. That's one stunning painting; you can practically feel the wind! Good on ya, girl!
Just had to reply to this and say how much I like this painting!!
The wind is blowing a gale here, so I had sound effects also!
I'm not in business, but I often come here just to learn how everyone is getting on!

Rose Queen, gnu, Geoff, thank you so much for your support and kind words. I'm back to the real world of doubting my own work this week and the thrill of awards has worn off. I think that's a good thing, because it seems to help me want to grow as an artist. Thanks, you guys are great.
Oh, Geoff, I love your pledge to your self and am curious if you are able to accomplish this frequently ... I'm afraid I'm just lucky if I paint or sketch at all. :)

Finally getting my head swelling to come back down, lol. Funny what that little recognition will do. Makes you feel WONDERFUL for awhile, then panic sets in..... will I ever be able to paint something someone likes again? It's a good motivator, to keep painting.

Nancy, These are beautiful. The mood and the weather is really captured here, wish I could see these in person. Congrats on the awards, it is a great ego boost to win competitions and helps to validate your work. Relish the win, I'm sure you deserve it! -Lisa
