Hi Everyone,

Some of you might remember the Shakespearean pastel I posted here a few weeks ago. If not, it was one I did for a submission call here in Vancouver. Every year they have a Shakespearean Festival called Bard on the Beach, which takes place under a big tent on the beach at Vanier Park in Vancouver. A local gallery was having a competition for artists to paint a Shakespearean themed painting based on this years season. I choose A Midsummer Night's Dream. Well on Thursday night they judged the paintings and I ended up winning 3rd place. I'm posted my painting again along with a photo of me and the Director of Bard on the Beach, Christopher Gaze.

More gallery photos can be seen at

Also I was at a farmer's market on the weekend which was directly across the street from an art gallery. To make a long story short, the owner came out and looked at my work and bought 20 of my art greeting cards wholesale to sell in the gallery and took 3 of my paintings on commission! I've had a fabulous weekend... trying to figure out how to top it, LOL

 Well you go girl! What a great week indeed! And you are in a gallery now...that is tops. Now comes the hard part...keeping the momentum going as things quiet back down. Last year when I won my first competition, I was so excited and then I went into a slump for about 6 weeks. Sure that won't happen to you though. Congratulations all arond!

Congratulations Melanie. It is always good to receive awards, prizes and honors for our work. I received one this spring (my first!) and I was really happy (and surprised!).

Keep on the good work!

Hi Melanie,

Congratulations !
You liked that watercolour (I guess it's a watercolour) with the kids and the dog, didn't you ? I also like it.
You have done a fine work and it's no surprise that you received a prize.
And to end up with third place sure is something to be proud of.
When you say in comission, I guess we call in that case consignation (in my country). Does it mean that the gallery took your paintings without compromise ? i.e. if they sell them, great, if not they'll just turn them back.
Anyway, it's visible that your work has quality, otherwise the person would not have taken three of them.

Kind regards and good luck,
