Why are so few artists recognised by their first name.
Van Gogh and DaVinci seem to be the exception ?.

We don't say "It's a Toulouse.", or ,"Look at that Salvador."

Is this acceptance that Vincent and Leonardo are the most "approachable" and "accepted " artists ever ?.

to name a few,

Michaelangelo Buoneratti
Rapheal Sanzio
Rembrandt van Rijn
Titian (Tiziano Vecellio)
Donatello (Donato di Niccolò di Betto Bardi)

These all are known by their first names. Van Gogh signed his canvases as "Vincent," so the immediete first-name recognition is understandable.

It is similar with the great poets - Virgil (Vergilius Maro), Dante Alighieri , etc).
