Had a problem shooting this. I may try shooting again in more natural light.
Anyhow it's a 5" x 7 1/2" on some canson black board I had left over from my first foray into scratchboard 10 years ago!!! C&C.

I just had a friend send me a bunch of pelican fishing pictures...maybe we should do a grouping and have a show....this looks like your best yet, but then I say that on every one you show.

Real nice work. I like the pose on the piling with the chin tucked in. Thanks for sharing.

Happy you liked it!
No I don't make my own scratchboard...
I think the best scratchboard product out there is the Claybord Black by Ampersand Art. It's sold by many art supply places on line such as Blick and Cheap Joes! Give it a try! There are also many excellent books on the subject!

Hello Bertoni:
I've just returned from a restful week up north at our cabin and now I have wonderful artwork to look at :-) I like the classic pelican pose and how you've captured the look of the colours of a brown pelican with different values. We have white pelicans here in the summer, but this fellow reminds me of the confident birds we saw in St Johns on Antigua.

Hi Tania:
Thanks for the comments on this one!!! I had once been in Antigua working on advertising for an airline, and wish I had seen some pelicans then. I do recall seeing some in Key West though!! I'd like to photograph some exotic type birds for scratchboards and I'd need to take a trip somewhere for that, meanwhile the WC image library will suffice, it's terrific!
