Hello -I was able to spend last weekend on the lake--I found a field set aside for wild flowers--The colors are not quite so vivid as the pastel painting may suggest? pastel on matboard--18x24 inches--comments welcome ..thanks Tom

Hi Tom,
Just wanted to say how I enjoy all your paintings and your great use of color.
I also use matboard (although I do not paint very often) and use pastel primer on it to give it grip. Have you ever used pastel primer? I also love your demo's of reference photo and your actual painting, learn a lot from that and thanks for sharing.

Hi,

I remember your barn from a few weeks ago. this one is also excellant. I like your visible strokes in the foreground. Which brand of pastels do you use for this - and do you use light or heavy pressure?

I also use matboard, with various acrylic media for primers.

One suggestion: you could cool the background and sky somewhat, might give you even more pop in the foreground.

a real winner. This is the sort of painting I would like to do (if I could)

absorbingly interesting.

Thankyou,

Thank you for your comments: I have been using Unison and Mount Vision pastels for my most recent paintings. I am constantly varying the pressure when applying the pastel. I also like to experiement with different stokes much like a pencil artist will create forms with many little marks of the pencil.

Tom, this is so alive with summer color...I love it. I've tried your technique of lots of individual strokes and I get scribble. You get beautiful paintings...hmmm

Another great painting Tom!
I really like how you approach your work with such looseness, yet get such a sharp looking painting.
Your colour choice is always perfect.
