That was over 20 minutes ago Mike and I can see you are NOT in bed yet. Your little green light is still on!:smug:

Hi  :D

Not often I get into the wash and hardly EVER this early. Must be because John is still at golf and I'm feeling lazy. I should be in the kitchen getting dinner ready.

Today for the first time ever I had to actually turn a commission down. Not something I thought I'd be able to do for a long time yet. Someone phoned me today asking if I could paint a cafe scene for them. She sounded pretty particular about what she wanted but had no reference material for me which meant alot of time and effort on my part before a brush touches the canavs. I'm usually ok with that but I'm just so busy right now. It was sounding like she wasn't wanting to pay for much research time and I just don't have that sort of spare time anyway now, so I thought this could end up a problem and I don't need it so I turned her down. I have enough work to keep me going for now. I hope it wasn't a mistake but I felt at the time it was a good decision. At the moment I'm 2/3rds through the last of three works for a restaurant and feeling pretty good about that.

The weekend has been low key with plenty of time for relaxing. Just what we needed.

Hope everyone is fine and dandy.

Ahhhh you caught me Elaine. Yes I was browsing through everything. I have been remiss in the Gallery area. I will try to find some time tomorrow for that while paint dries. Your work is always so great nice to see you have enough work to turn down stuff that doesn't feel right to you. Well I will say good night again and really this time. Good night......

Mike You're not the only one not getting to the gallery. I am probably the most guilty one for not keeping up. I blame Dial up mostly, as I would spend at least 75% of my computer time just waiting for pages to load. It drives me insane and more times than not I just give up waiting.

Sleep well Mike, and may the sandman fill your dreams with happy painting and contentment:wave:

Just wanted to share a pic taken a week ago here at my place. We had a get together with a few of my siblings. There are eight of us so two missing in this pic, one of them lives out of town the other lives out of the country.
I've named each of them and those left unnamed are their partners.
http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/30-Jul-2006/41055-July_15th_004.jpg
We always have a great time when we hook up. My hubby and brothers are really into fine wines. It's an art form with them so there's always a tasting when we get together. (John, my hubby is in the back opening yet another bottle)
We are a crazy bunch and more often than not we end up in fits of giggles. The guy pointing the finger, Joe, is a complete nutter :smug: and never fails to have us laughing. He's giving his partner a hard time.
I'm really proud of my family.

Thanks for letting me share this with you.

ooooohhh, dial-up! I’m in such good company. Thanks for saying something. We can each be forgiving of the other. I’d so love to contribute more, and yes, I click on a page then go iron something, or click then wash, or click then water the bird bath, etc.etc. TeeHee, fun, huh.

Elaine, thank you for sharing the wine tasting, and your fabulous family. REALLY wish I had a lot of family like that. You deserve the best. Enjoy.

Liz, the girls a beautiful treasures, thanks for the pictures.

Chris sleep well and sweet dreams.

Mike, stay cool. Ha, I know where you are.

Got back from the circus tonight, a hmmm, memorable experience.

All to come, you are loved,

Hello...............

Hi Mike who is now in bed!

Hi Elaine, I loved your family photo. How great to have so many siblings. I understand what you mean turning down the commission. I can remember being so excited to be asked for a commission at one stage that I would say yes to every single request. I'm far more selective now and keep a waiting list of exciting paintings to look forward to rather than dread!

Hi there Liz, I'm still learning things here too! Those girls are gorgeous and the sunflowers to die for. How beautiful. The cat looks as though its struggling to be set free!!

Hi Chris, see you soon !;)

It's a gorgeous day here today.

I know I've been asked about Bearded Collies a few times so while I remember they are very different to Old English Sheepdogs. Long and lean with long feathery tails. They're working dogs and are very agile. Taffy has rounded up sheep before now whilst Bailey has only seen ponies to practise on!

Here is a link with more information on the breed.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bearded_Collie

Taffy is a Brambledale Beardie and has won in shows bless him but we don't talk about that now.:o It took ages to get him to realise not every camera taken out is for a shot of himself and he was getting ideas above his station BUT please don't ever tell him he's a dog!

Here we are going through our paces at an International Dog Show. He won first prize!!!!!

http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/30-Jul-2006/71657-Taffyring.jpg

I've just realised I have watercolour on my scanner!!!!!!!!:o

Checking for links to try to describe his breed I found this one which means Brambledales are also now in America. Isn't Google great?

Have a fantastic day!

We're dry again  Left the heat on all night and now all windows and doors are open. Very much to Isis enjoyment, it's a constant in and out of the house
DH used my lavender oil to spray around and it's unbareable :( since his sense of smell is not good he don't care but my eyes are watering

Elaine, great family photo and looks like you had heaps of fun. :)

Morning all

A comfortable 71F here still no rain!

Had a lovely evening with friends last evening out in their garden in a large gazebo.

I think it's wonderful that you were able to turn down the commission, Elaine - that you are so busy an indication of the high quality of your work.

I'm impressed with Taffy's first prize, Jean - didn't know the difference between Old English sheepdogs and Bearded Collies they look the same to me apart from the docked tails.

No plans for today - just going down for the paper and to put the car through the car wash.

Morning all

We had rain yesterday! Looks like more to come today, it's very overcast here.

Elaine, congratulations on being successful enough to have the choice of turning down commissions you don't want! Love the pic of your family, you're obviously very close, which I envy.

Liz, you should paint your pretty neices, those photos would make great paintings!

Hi Gladys Marie, I haven't welcomed you yet (chaotic times here lately). :)

A belated HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Brant, Mike, sounds like the party was a big success :)

Morning Jutta :) Glad you're winning the battle against the damp after the storm.

Jean, we can almost see your face in that photo! ;)

Morning Doug! A quiet day for you? Does that mean you might get to paint? ;)

Our re-vamp continues, with our bedroom top of the list for painting, closely followed by the living room, then the hall, stairs and landing. Choosing colours is so difficult though, do I go for colour or neutral? I guess with neutrals I would have a better setting for paintings :D We found a bargain table and chairs set yesterday so we ordered it to go in our new kitchen, it won't be as big as the one I wanted at first, but we don't entertain much, so as long as we get the five of us around it I'm sure it'll be fine.

I want to get some painting time today, it seems like a lifetime since I got my brushes wet! Jean's portrait lesson is calling..... and the sunflowers I treated myself to on Friday :D

HAWLTAIN and big hugs to all,

Ruth

Oops that was a mistake,:o I must be more careful!;) Anyway you were supposed to look at Taffy not me!!!!!!!!

Goodness Doug, maybe face on they look similar but sideways they are very different. Now I'll have to find better photos WITHOUT me in them!

Morning, Washers...

:) Jean, half a face is better than lots of hair. :)
That was the first thing I noticed, that you had
your hair tied back... Think I'll save that one :)

67F and drizzly gray overcast ... the worst went
by south of us, but I'll take it for the temp :)

Ruth, I'm looking forward to photos of your
new kitchen, and so neat that the rest of the house
will get a facelift too :)

One thing I hope to result from "new eyes" is that
I'll actually see all that needs cleaning, mopping,
wiping to get my nest ready for photos for the Where
You Live thread :)

At least now I have a legitimate reason for delaying
work on the church painting...That also will proceed
anon post-surgery. Can you tell I am looking forward
to this? Biggest thing, I think, is not to expect so
much that what results are achieved, won't disappoint
me.

Good Morning all,
It is a little past 7:30 a.m. on a warm, warm Sunday morning sans AC. :sigh:
(I know there isn't an icon for that, but there should be. ;) )

Our family evening and dinner party went well. Everyone enjoyed the meal (or seemed to since the food disappeared fairly quickly), and we had a great time with Quinn and Casey who played with his Grandpop's Gaucho Hat for at least a half hour and had us in stitches. I tried to get a photo but he was too fast for me.

This afternoon we all head to northern Kentucky to wish Dashiell a happy second birthday! Hope to get some good photos of the four grandsons together if I can get them all to stand still at the same time.

Our AC contractor will be out on Monday. Hope he doesn't have to order a part or anything. Luckily, our house was built before air conditioning was a big factor so we have lots of windows and great cross-circulation of air (and a big ceiling fan in the bedroom for sleeping). Larry and I both grew up without air conditioning so we remember what summers were like in our "youth," but it is amazing how quickly we get used to things and it seems more uncomfortable now than it did then.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ANNE BEDFORD! Hope you have a wonderful special day today and a terrific year of painting to come.

BELATED HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO BRANDT! Hope you had a lot of fun at your party and a great year to come.

Liz, Your neices are both lovely young ladies. I know what you mean about collapsing when they leave. LOL! No matter how well behaved and how much fun company is, it is always a pleasure to just collapse in a chair and relax when you have the house to yourself again. :D

I spent a good half-hour this a.m. reviewing the Where do you live? thread. I started at page one because it has been so long since it was first posted. I got up to page 4 (out of 10). Since I am on dial-up, it takes each page quite a while to load, but IT WAS WORTH THE WAIT. I loved reading everyone's descriptions of where they lived and seeing the photos. Will look at the rest of the pages on another day. Thanks for posting it, Malty, and thanks for reviving it, Doug.

Waving to all who were here before me and those yet to come.

SYL,

Sylvia

Learn something every day - Jo, Jean, and Doug have green lights so you guys are also on-line -

Elaine I think a good idea to turn down a commission from someone who doesn't know what they want yet want sto tell you what to do -

We are off for Charlottesville this morning - about 65 miles. First go see my Aunt who lives in assisted living (where she is they call it Catered Care) and then to her daughter's house for lunch and catch up with her kids and grands. Aunt Betty is doing quite well for 86 but after about an hour would be worn out at the house with everyone so she'd rather we come visit and then she'll get her nap in. It will be good to see everyone since these are my favorite relatives!!!

Best go get showered and dressed - laters

crossed posted Sylvia - see your green light also -

Good Morning Eveeryone!!! Another hot one!

One of our out of town bunch members has his 77th birthday today, so no cooking by anyone today since he always has us celebrate with him in a German restaurant. Used to be in the evening with dancing but has now changed to midday - lunch buffet. To their house for cake afterwards. I'll be arriving looking like a witch, with hair everywhere, since my AC in the car is "Every window open".

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANNE!!!!! Wishing you good health and contentment for the coming year!!!

Elaine - good for you!!! and really glad you are doing so well!!! Great family pic!

Liz, very cute nieces, chuckling at that cat - seems ready to leap

Jean, almost a profile  I always wonder how that breed of dogs can see where they are going.

Sylvia, glad all went well and looking forward to photos of today's event. Happy birthday to Dashiell!!!

Amalia, sounds like you have a lovely day planned too - enjoy!!!

Hi Jo, Still waiting to see your nest.

Elaine: where are you in that photo??? Looks like a fun time though.

Ruth, hope this work is all done before the week of the 14th. There is a chained library I am supposed to be at with you.

Greetings to everyone near and far,

Hoping that you can accept this weary traveler back....no, I've not traveled. I've just been on the go continually with the grandchildren from well before sun-up to well after sundown....but of course the truth of it is that my embarrassment had taken me away. Sometimes we step our foot in it, don't we.

My sincerest apologies to the Wash family, for making you a part of a squabble between siblings...and especially for making anyone feel uncomfortable. But I especially would like to publicly apologize to Chris. I know we've cleared this up in PMs...but still feel this is warranted. And I'd like to add that I have a great admiration for you on many levels. You're a GREAT human being Chris. And as I've told you, I think of you as a younger brother.

Thanks to those who worried about me, sent PMs, and checked in on me.

Morning All!

Am enjoying the pictures today.

(((Becky))) welcome home.:)

Jean one of our beagles is a Canadian Champion (now retired) and also poses at every opportunity.:D I knew about the differences between beardies and old english sheep dogs, but that was only because I made identification errors at dog shows. NOT the best place to be ignorant about dog breeds.:)

Happy Birthday Anne!

Sylvia, it sounds like your dinner was a success, so I am guessing that there are no leftovers for us to share...sigh.:D

Banxy, I remember the Byward Market! We used to go there every weekend when we lived in Ottawa! Wonderful place to explore.

It is only going to 23 C (73 F) here today, which is nice because we are going to my mum and dad's to celebrate my dad's birthday today. It will be nice to see everyone again. Which reminds me, I need to get a card painted!

Back later, maybe...

Take care.

Good Morning...and..

A Very Happy Birthday to Dashiel!!!!!

I'm still all wound up over re-doing our bedroom and figured out what I want to do for curtains for the kitchen... Going retro 30's... It should be fun, but I woke up waaaay too early thinkig about it and couldn't go back to sleep. The morning light hit's differently and is harder to hide from with this new arrangement... Hmmmmm I'll have to think of something!!

Ruth, for our re-do it will be color!! Not slap in the face, but color still!! It makes my eyes happy to see soft lovely color with white painted woodwork. I'll just paint things to go along with what I've done in the rooms!!

Elaine, how wonderful that you have enough commissions to keep you busy and able to turn down one that you obviously wouldn't enjoy!! I think that is the epitome of success!!

Jo, I'm excited for you!! They can do such wonderful things for cataracts and such these days... What a blessing...

Well, I've got to eat my english muffin and decide how to terrorize David the rest of the day!! I think maybe another piece of furniture needs to be shuffled down the hall..... :D :D

Happy Birthday Anne and Debbie (Godzoned)
Back from my week away. Didn't turn out quite as planned and it's been one thing after another. Just before we left, our tv blew up (must be related to Banxy's stove). Our rented cottage was without water for 2 days, so we had a steady stream of people there trying to resolve the problem which turned out to be a major repair to the pump. Meanwhile no bathroom, showers etc. We'll get refunded, but the time is gone and can't get that back! We just get home, put in a load of wash, the washer fills but doesn't empty. Ever try to hand-wring king sized sheets?! Took my daughter to the clinic because she spent the whole week at the cottage in bed feeling ill. We learned she has mono so it'll be a while before she's back to her old self. After the clinic visit we get into the car which won't start. It turns out to be an electronic 'glitch'. So much for R&R!! We need a vacation from this vacation.
Today's a new day though, and things can only get better, right?
I did do some painting while I was away though and finally finished my glass tutorial which I'll post later. Took lots of photos and found a neat gallery on our rainy day outing. We had one good day of sun and beach just before we came home.
Hope everyone else had a good week. Haven't read back to see what I missed yet.

http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/30-Jul-2006/1046-Sweat.gif Good Sunday Morning Washers! It's 30C and the temp is climbing... we're expecting it to be 34 or 35 today... the humidity is stifling... Ted and I even had our morning coffee in the house before he went to work!!! His *call* volume is up, too... people getting sick from the heat... http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/30-Jul-2006/1046-Sweat.gif

When Matt came home yesterday, from helping friends move to a new apartment, his face was beet red... and my niece and her husband looked no better... I sent them down to the cool lake to refresh themselves... made them some iced green tea and them had them stay inside for awhile...

So... since my floors are shovelled and the *extra* cat has been disposed of... bathrooms are clean... beds are made... sink is shiny... I'm going to PAINT!!

Hi Mike... Happy painting today... hope you had a good night's sleep... browsing the Gallery is a lot more fun than watching/waiting for paint to dry... :D Belated Happy Birthday to Brant... kids' parties are so much fun...

Wow, Elaine! Congratulations on refusing a commission! You've definitely got a good thing going!!!! Great family pic!

Gorgeous Girls, Liz! Kitty doesn't exactly look thrilled, though...

 Banxy... just wondering about the exact timing of your brain's refusal to work... hehehe... :p

Hi Gladys Marie... about your *memorable* experience at the circus...

I loved your action pic, Jean and  about the paint on your scanner!!! You're truly a watercolourist!

Hi Jutta... aroma therapy??? Glad everything is finally dried out!

Hi Doug... glad it's a little cooler... well... a LOT cooler than it has been... in SW Ontario, it gets HOT, HOT, HOT and then it storms... and then we begin the cycle again...

Hi Ruth... Uschi's home is all WHITE... everything... walls, furniture, towels, cabinets... BUT... she has floor to ceiling colour with her paintings... and it's GORGEOUS!!! With a family of 5, I don't think I'd recommend an all-white house, but neutrals will probably do it for you... I hope this means you'll finally be framing and hanging more of your OWN work!!!!

((Jo)) My Aunt was sitting on a bench in the shopping centre one day... I noticed her there and bought two coffees... I thought we'd chat for a bit... when I approached her, she asked me who I was?????? Her cataracts were so bad that she didn't recognize me... Aftwerward, it was like night and day, the difference was so significant... I'm praying this is what you'll experience!

AFTERNOON WASHGANGEROOS!!

Another scorcher of a day in downtown Wigan.

Did a stupid thing today - my dvd recorder won't switch on for some reason - so I opened it up to see if there were any loose power wires - of course I forgot the thing was still plugged in and as I was moving a wire my hand caught on the main power thing - and WHAM!! - the electricity went off and I got an electric shock. Dohhhhhhhhhhh!!

Thing was Mum and John were watching the Challenge Cup Rugby semi final and all I got was ' What's happened to the electric?' I went in and said - 'Am ok - thank you for your concern!' to which I got - 'Well it was stupid to keep the thing plugged in'

Well ok I knew that but a bit of sympathy wouldn't have gone amiss.....LOL.

And the thing still won't switch on :(

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANNE!!!

BELATED HAPPY BIRTHDAY BRANDT

Pat, be careful! Electricity can sure be dangerous. I think you'd better back away from the computer ... my luck must be rubbing off on you! After writing earlier and having a good grumble about all the things that have gone wrong, I decided to go out and do some yard work. I'm trimming the hedge and I smell something and the trimmer's making a funny noise, then smoke. Argh! The motor burned out! Could be worse ... at least I still have all my fingers and toes! Trying to be positive, but oh my gosh, talk about a run of bad luck!
Think I'll just sit in my house where it's cool and paint a while. Won't use any more appliances today.
Elaine - nice that your family is close. I have 4 sisters and 3 brothers too, so there are 8 of us altogether. We're all very different and I'm the only artistic one but we all have fun when we get together. Two of my brothers are getting married this fall.

Shelley I can sympathize with you... I have had days like that and have just watched my husband go through a time like that too. I crashed my Palm Pilot (lost everything on it) so, I went to restore it from backup. I crashed my computer when I started the restore. Had to wipe my hard drive clean and restore that from backup. THEN I called my husband to whine, shocked the phone with a static charge and suddenly could not dial out...:D Some times it just pays to hide in bed with the covers over your head.:D

Pat, consider Auntie P's wagging finger pointed at you. Now you have a new hair colour and a near perm! Please don't do that again...

I dunno Becky, Becky-Bog is kinda cute.:D

Now I need to get on with my dad's card. Everything else is ready to go... I think.

take care.

Jutta - you may as well blame me - everyone else does round here.....LOL.

It is just sooooooooo annoying - one day it was working fine then the next day - nothing - I just couldn't understand what went wrong with it - thing is our Jamie and John bought it for me about 2 yrs ago so of course there is no warranty on it - will just have to find someone who knows about dvds.....lol.

Shelley Nice to note you are also one of eight sibblings. I wouldn't say I was the only artsitic one among my siblings but I am certainly the only one trying to make a living from it. All my siblings are artistic but in various areas like photography, writing etc. I'm the only painter among us, however I have started giving one of my brothers some lessons and he's doing really well. Best wishes to your two brothers about to get married.

Happy Birthday Brant

Elaine: where are you in that photo??? Looks like a fun time though.
Chris I'm not in that photo since I'm behind the camera. Besides I'd probably put a stain on the otherwise 'good looking' scene.

Shelly, I think a national robe day may be in order ((((())))) Sorry about the vacation troubles - so annoying!!!!

Pat  glad you are OK. Well that one thing you'll never do again

DH and I had a wonderful visit to Charlottesville. My Aunt Betty is getting quite frail but still has her sense of humor. On the door to her room she has a big sign that reads, "Do Not Let the Dogs Out - No Matter How Much They Beg" Also a barking dog motion activater so when you start to open her door there is all this barking :D Good visit for about 40 minutes - that's about all she's up to.

Then we went to her daughter's house - my favorite cousin - where we had lunch with her and her DH, son and daughter, daughter-in-law and 3 grandkids, and daughter's boy friend. It was wonderful to see them all. The grands are 5, 20 months, and 2 months! Her daughter, my first cousin once removed, has always been a favorite of mine and she just graduated from college. The family is thrilled because she is living in Charlottesville but not so thrilled that she just moved in with her boyfirend. Mom and Dad have holes in their tounge from not repeatedly saying how they feel about this :( This is family I will miss when in Florida!

My DH wants us to go out to supper so I best get it in gear -

Did you hear me tiptoe thru the wash this morning? Yep, I did. Then wandered away without posting. Sheeeesh . . .

I like Becky-Bog, too! Welcome back!!

Cooler here today . . . 84F is much better than 113!!

I wasn't able to solve this dilema, but maybe you can . . .

You are a South African bush pilot. You fly in some critical medical
supplies, enjoy a quick lunch at the hospital.

It's a stifling 100 degrees in the shade and you're eager to get back up
to the cool, high blue yonder.

On the way back to your plane, you discover that the only bit of shade,
within 10 miles, has become very popular . . . You start calculating the
distance to the plane door ... and wonder . . .

"Do I feel lucky today?"

good evening!
Cathie - LOL at your photo! Poor bush pilot - what a decision!

I've been off on holidays x 2 weeks and have to go back this week:( I was busy doing the wedding invitations and planning but thankfully car and appliances cooperated with me! Many things have been crossed off the to-do list.

Back to work thoughts - Anyone left a successful career to do what they would really love to be doing - that is painting/being an artist fulltime? I keep contemplating this but seem to be rather attached to the paycheque that pays the mortagage and utility bills!!:(

Have a good evening all. CRS for all the other posts - sorry
thanks,

I'm late posting today. I've been working on a painting that I would like to finish tonight. Wonderful cool dry day today but it is getting cloudy and threatening rain - again.

Happy Birthday Anne.

Shelley - so sorry for all your problems with electic things lately. Maybe you have somehow become highly electrified yourself and need to ground yourself. Hope you have a streak of good luck after this to make up for it.

Gotta run. The dog wants in - it must be starting to rain. He hates getting his feet wet.

Jaytee, I did see your special birthday wish on this wash and of course, the many who wished me a nice birthday. Thank you everyone. It meant alot to me.

We were up at 5 on my birthday, as Lee was going over his sermon. He is retired, but promised to preach three Sundays at a small United Methodist Church a couple of miles from our home. People have responded well. It is his last Sunday for now. The pastor is on an extended leave of absence, she and her husband have adopted two children. Another retired man will fill in for several Sundays, until another pastor is appointed.

Lee and I are early risers, are always up by 6:30...go to bed about 11 p.m.

Cheryl came Friday to paint with me. She did what I believe to be one of her best paintings, since starting. It is of our daughter-in-love. If she posts it and I hope she does, just know it is an excellent likeness.

Again, thank you guys for wishing me a great 70th birthday yesterday the 30th.
Anne
